Default SPoT rescue alert... worth having?

I've been thinking of my upcoming trip out west... destination and route is still undetermined as i'll be making my way west... hopefully to Inuvik and/or alaska.

SPOT Canada

I've been reading on other forums about the SPoT device in case of emergencies and since i'll be travelling solo for the whole trip and no real plan... do you think it would be worth having a device like this "just in case"?

if i'm off the beaten path and happen to hit a ditch and break both my legs... i just don't want to find myself on the side of a milk carton or the news..

anyone think it's worth it? not worth it? thoughts?
