Default Looking for a camcorder - need help

I know there are some "electronic gurus" on here that can offer some good advice. Here's my deal:

I went to Circuit City and asked for a nice camcorder and I was recomended the Panasonic HDC-SD9 High Definition camcorder. Got one from ebay, opened it up, charged the battery, and recorded a quick 2 min video. The problem, I'm not ready to deal with HD. The file size was 90mb and I also don't have blue ray. It records in AVCHD and it took me about an hour to convert it to mpeg2. I'll never be able to edit the video - so I put it back on eBay and sold it.

Now here's what I want:

I want something the size of the Panasonic SD9. It fit my hands well and was pretty easy to use.

I now want one that will burn to DVD directly, and also have the abiltiy to point and take quick pics. I want something I can transfer the files to the laptop with USB 2.0.

So what's your input regarding a nice camcorder for my wife and I to use. We want to make some quick home movies of our son as he grows up, and I'd also like something I can use when we go to the races.

TIA
