Default GPS is Here...............

Plugged it up, turned it on, and it found the location in about 15 seconds.

Set all the parameters and will take it out tomorrow for a test run.

So Far...............So Good..........................

For the moment it seems like I got a good deal. It came with the update CD, House Charger, Car Charger, Windshield Mount, Soft Carrying Case, and Rigid Mount for the Dash of the vehicle.

I will keep you posted on the progress.

Just got mine too. It's the Magellan 4210. I chose it over the other brands due to 2 features that I preffered. It has AAA Tour Book info that could be useful and the choice of "Most use OR Least use" of freeways. So far, I really like it. Will have to see how it stands up to the bike this summer. Not water proof and may be more fragile than some other brands but I'm wiling to take the chance.
Will be interesting to see what SMURF got and how it does.
I also will report back with any failures.

When it comes to putting it on the bike, you need to note that the external power to the unit is 5V. Thus, you need to KEEP the electronics inside the cigarette lighter plug.

Somehow using a GPS on a motorcycle......other than a Gold Wing....just seems wrong somehow.

OK, OK, OK, OK..........................

So I didn't get it the first time. I did a search for GPS and nothing returned, so I figured that I was right (obviously I was wrong...........So Write Me A Ticket)

I apologize to all the Mods, and Admins.

As for the GPS.........I got the Magellan 4000 because of the price and I'm very pleased with it's performance.

Now we have something in common besides being short.........

You still have a monolopy on the blue thing though.

I plan a bike trip to Atlanta (Decatur, actually)next summer and may not take my 4000 'cause the whole trip is only 2 routes.......until I come into the Atlanta metro area on US 41 and try to get from there to Decatur without using the Interstates and without going through downtown.

Looking at the "detailed" paper map of the area, it appears that there is NO good way to do that. If the GPS will pick me a route for that last 20 miles or so maybe it would be worth it to take it along.
What'ya think?

GPS's
What is the way that riders that use GPS's can download their traveled routes, and share then with those of us that like to take trips on our bikes?

I was just about to say that.

When I do a GPS ride its turn by turn instructions that I have already predetermined and downloaded to the gps-r. Using the computer is going to be a boring ride, unless you’re in a hurry to get somewhere and like to count the miles down.

Smurf I think you said it did come with mapping software.

Another cool feature even if you ventured off the path it records where you are, speed, altitude, etc.... When you get home after finding a few new cool roads you can retrack and save those new tracks to maybe add onto a good ride.

Alas, it doesn't come with any mapping software and I don't think it will leave "bread crumbs" or do a track back either. If it does, I haven't found it yet.

My garmin usually gives me a nice trip if I turn on the avoidances for highways and tollways. i've seen some beautiful parts of the North Woods in Wisconsin that way. Unfortunately, you gotta go 300 miles away from Chicago to get to the nice parts.
