Default Change your gauge colour on your Gixxer

Here is a tutorial on How to PROPERLY change out the leds that light up your speedo and your tach.

THIS IS FOR
2000-2003 R 750
2001-2003 R 600
2001-2002 R 1000

Tools needed

-soldering iron(pencil tip iron or smaller, I found the flat iron work the best)

-Solder(thin solder as you will be working in small tedious places)

-solder removal tool( I used a solder pump/vacuum. You can use a wick or de-soldering station)

-Phillips head screwdriver

-Static free work place

-replacement surface mount leds*11 needed*

-PATIENCE.. IT MAY TAKE YOU UP TO 6 HOURS TO DO THIS.. THIS IS NOT FOR THOSE WHO HAS NEVER USED A SOLDERING IRON!

Procedure.

1-Remove gauge cluster from you back*there is A screw holding it in at the bottom center of your cluster* when screw is removed pull cluster out of rubber garment*pull straight towards you!*
Disconnect the plug on the back.. it may be a little snug but it will come just wiggle it.

2-open case by removing 5 screws located on the back!

3-lift the circuit board out of the case.. CAREFULLY remove the needle.. I pulled and turned COUNTERCLOCK wise DON"T USE SCREW DRIVER you could break the needle. After removing the needle remove the 2 screws holding the faceplate.*above and below the needle are 2 little screws*

4-turn the board over so your looking at the back and remove the 3 screws on the back*this holds the front lends on*

5-de-solder the 30 pins on the back of the board. this is necessary to be able to remove the clear lens so you can get to the leds.

6-Lift the clear lens from the circuit board.

7- Remove the old leds this is probably the HARDEST part. I found it most easy to heat one side of the led and lift it, Then hold the led with tweezers and heat up the other side and REMOVE the led.. remove the old solder and put new solder on.

8-install your new leds(Like to give you a source and part number but i can't). TAKE A LOOK AT HOW THEY SIT there is a little LIP in the leds. That LIP goes to the K that is on the board (K= NEGATIVE)

9-Double check that all the leds work* i plug my gauge back in after EACH led I did* Make sure you use enough solder to hold the led but not to much that you'll short out other components.

10- re solder the 30 pins back to the board as before. Then screw the 3 screws that hold the lens on back on* the 3 screws that were on the back of the board*

11-put white face back on and put the 2 screws back in. Then re-install the needle(you will need to play with the needle to get it to zero out i plugged it in and turn the ignition on and off till i turn and put the needle back where it would be at 0 when off)

12-When the board is back together put it back in the case and put the 5 screws that are holding it together on the back. back in.

13- plug and mount back into bike*make sure to put it in the rubber garments and to screw that one screw in.

14- GO SHOW OFF

(If i made any spelling errors or if somewhere i didn't make sense please point it out i will correct in a timely fasion to assit those wishing to try this.
