I'm a big fan of visibility, but I'm not a fan of dangerous lighting. I've never put an HID in a reflector housing before, but I was wondering if there was a kit or a method for installing one in a motorcycle headlight? I've also never had an H4 HID setup where it is high beam and low beam in one bulb. What are your thoughts on HIDs?

EDIT: Whoops... Just found another recent thread. Sorry about that. I tried doing a search for HID and didn't see anything. I searched for lighting and found this thread. http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...light=lighting I'll post there. Sorry about that!

I posted this several days ago, and meant to post this here in the "M50 Hideaway", but accidentally put over in "Cruisers".
____________

OK, I took about an hour ride last evening with this new Mustang Wide Touring seat, and here are my observations.

Passenger Pillion:
The passenger seat is plenty wide and plush, and my passenger was very comfortable on this seat. She even stated that she could have ridden another hour or maybe more without issue. She further stated that she felt much better immediately after getting off than before, with no stiffness to work out like before. The pillion also slopes back just a bit so that she is not always sliding into me from behind every time I brake a bit hard or downshift a bit quickly. All of this coupled with a good back rest, has her feeling very comfy back there.

Driver Seat:
The driver seat is plenty wide, and I had no issues that way. It does feel a bit short from back to front, however, and at first I felt like when you sit on a small folding chair with a very short seat. The front edge of the seat seems to stop just ahead of my butt cheeks instead of extending a bit under my thighs, and it feels like there is a bit of a lump right there where it drips off on each side. However, as I rode I think I began to get used to this issue. I am also aware that the seat will brake in after 100 miles or so, and that hard spot may disappear, reducing the feeling of the seat being too short.

The driver seat, also, doesn’t come up over the tip of the tank as other seats do, but then I noticed that this area (around the boys) was a lot less cramped than before as well. The actual seat cup seemed very comfortable, offering very good support, and giving me no numb butt at all.

I will only know how this seat does for 1-1/2 to 2 hours when I actually get the opportunity to ride that long, but I can truly say that after an hour, I was not uncomfortable, and if it wasn’t as cold as it was, I could have ridden longer. I can only hope we get a bit of nice weather for a longer ride before the snow flies.

Got to ride this one after work today. Ummmmm........Damn! Now we're talking boys & girls. I like it!

Obviously very similar ergo's from the M90 that I already discussed. Seat height seemed slightly higher but still flat footed at a stop. The bike does feel bulkier but I don't mean that in a negative way. This is a 1783cc true muscle cruiser. You even get that V-Twin idle rumble engine shake like it's just begging you to crack open the throttle.

Big difference is the 240 rear tire and the much more torquey engine. 2nd gear does "clunk" like everybody says but it didn't bother me. The stock pipes stick out a little farther than the M90 and they almost hit your leg at a stop but not really a problem. It does come with a speedo on the tank and a heads-up tach on the handlebars which is actually kind of nice to have. Oh and the brakes. Man why can a 700lb bike stop soooo much better than our M50's? Dual disk brakes are noticeably better on this bike. That's was a nice surprise.

Ok the test ride was great. Deceiptively fast bike. I rolled to 3rd gear & briefly looked at the speedo to see that I was blowing past 80mph with lots of throttle/gear left (I thought I was only going about 50mph, my bad). This is when my first smile happened. I reluctantly backed off the throttle. After the next light I rode it more "normally" and 65mph in 5th is like depressingly easy for this bike.

I practiced some controlled swerves and yes you can tell you have a 240 tire back there but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I did take a few curves and honestly for a 725 lb bike and a big fat rear tire I was actually impressed with how it handled as things considered. The M50 or M90 is going to be more nimble in the mountain twisties but I can see where this bike won't be very far behind especially if your a good confident rider. Plus you got power to spare on the straight aways.

The stock feet position almost feels like it has forward controls which I like. Handlebar placement is fine, no complaints.

Guys I think I'm gonna trade my fitty in and get the big hoss. That throttle/torque combo this bike has is addicting. I may be posting my new ride soon.

FYI: The website below states this bike pulls 127hp at 6200 rpm. Dat nice.

Just test rode the new M90 at lunch and though I'd share my thoughts, impressions & opinon on the bike.

Sitting on the bike feels good. Has a much more vertical riding position than how I have my M50 setup. Doesn't feel big & heavy to me at all even though it's 140lbs. heavier than the M50. Well balanced.

Like the looks of the bike. Like the 200 series low profile rear tire. Like the placement of the speedo. Looks "almost" identical to the bigger M109. Like the dual disk brakes.

Was not overly impressed with test ride. Not bad, not great. The engine & torque are quite tame for a 1462cc bike. Up shifts smoothly. Handles very well in the curves however (it's best feature to me). Lower gears are still clunky, but that's with every Suzuki cruiser. Honestly my M50 is just as fast 0-70 as this bike. Giving it throttle to pass over 70 is fair. The bike doesn't strain as much however with the bigger motor.

Overall I like: The styling, the handling & the price.

I dislike: The tame power. I guess I was hoping for much more.

---------------------------

I'm going back later to ride the M109 to compare it to. They have to service one to get ready to ride. I'll post my feelings on that one next.

It is looking like my daily commute is about to have about 30 - 45 minutes added on to it. :( and :) I'm looking at getting some highway bars so I can stretch my legs out a bit. What are your recommendations? I've never had highway bars before, but the guys riding with them look so comfy that I'm exploring the option. Would forward controls be a better solution and do they even make those for the M50? I had them on my Virago and loved it. I've seen a pair on Ebay for about $180. I would imagine I need some foot pegs too and those are on there for around $20. If I can get a little stretch out of my legs for about $200, then I say that is a good deal. Any thoughts?

So i just got my bike back from my local Suzuki dealer, and as soon as I hit the rear brake pedal, it did something that it never did before...

Actually bring my bike to a stop without having to use the front brake

Mind you, before, the rear brake would feel like the equivalent to using a block of wood to stop my bike w/o using the front brake (and I DO use the front brake). Now twice on the way home, I've used the rear brake with only needing to feather the front brake.

I'm I the only one this has happened to? I don't know what they did, but I feel more confident in braking now!

P.S. I've just noticed how much I used the word brake :O

I saw a few pics and like the clean look with the shorter aftermarket risers without the stock riser / speedo setup but I need a speedo. I did look into the aftermarket speedo's but would rather have the clean handlebar look of the

I am considering buying a Saddlemen Explorer for my M50, and I can get one from GM Cycles, with studs, for $316 with free shipping. I would, however, like a bit of information before I go ahead with the purchase.

I have a C50 rear fender which puts the rear rear pillion mounting hole about an inch further back, so I will probably have to modify the rear pillion mounting bracket to reach this hole.

I tried a Corbin Classic Solo with Pillion which has the rear bracket attached with screws, so I was able to simply remove it and replace it with a homemade one that was sufficiently long enough to reach the mounting holes. I have heard that, on the Explorer, this bracket is riveted onto the pillion seat pan, so I would like a bit more info on how the bracket is made to figure out if I can add an extension to it.

Any info, and especially pic's of the passenger pillian from the bottom, would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, unfortunately, I still stall from time to time. The last two times it's happened, though, I've had a lot of trouble restarting the bike. Both times, it's happened, I've been pointed up a hill, and in trying to start from there, the starter motor goes, but does not catch. There's plenty of gas, and no warning lights have been on while the bike's been running. Both times it has happened, I've gotten the bike onto a flat surface and given it a minute of rest, ignition off, before starting the bike with no problem. I've encountered absolutely no starting problems anywhere else other than after these two stalls; it usually starts and runs like a champ. My thought is that it's time to get the valves adjusted, but I wanted to check with you guys to see if anyone had any other ideas first.
