LOL! boring day at work, so I will post my new ink I mentioned in another thread...

Got this one last week, from a friend named "Painless" Paul Nelson. Paul has been tattooing for 38 years, has been featured in every tattoo and biker magazine I can think of, and has done work for more famous people than Michael J Fox could shake a stick at. Stopped by his place for a bourbon & coke or three, and came home with this:

I drew this one up using elements from three different 'on the wall' designs, plus some freehand stuff. The dagger is the weapon not of power, but of betrayal & deceit, and the rose is the symbol of true love & happiness. In most tats the dagger stabs the rose, but in mine I wanted the two intertwined as equals, wrapped by a yellow remembrance ribbon with the Latin word 'moneo", the root verb meaning “to remind" or "to warn": betrayal is not certain, but with the chance of one, comes the chance of the other.

It looks better now, as it was just scabbing over when the pic was taken. The lines are nice and crisp now, and the colors much crisper that it has scabbed, peeled, and healed.

The arm band is two roses (because love must flow both ways) wrapping around the bicep but not meeting in the back. In between them is a blue rose, the literary symbol of a metaphysical striving for the infinite and unreachable.

The week before I got this one, also from Paul:

This rather wicked looking guy represents the evil side of me, and the personal demons that I may have contained and kept hidden, but can never completely remove from me. The placement of the tattoo is such that I just glimpse it out of the corner of my eye when I turn my head...I can try to ignore it, but it waits, just at the edge of my vision, impossible to ignore or forget. My demons are not gone, just contained.

I have other tattoos also, including a dragon as large as the demon, but those are stories for another time.

I've decided that I'm going to start wearing earplugs for most of my time on the bike, but I haven't a clue what a good price are for them. I'm thinking of the little foamy squish em and stick em in your ear type. The little disposable orange ones.

I can get a box of 200 pairs from work for $40 ($0.20 each), but that seems a wee bit pricey to me, even though that's our cost. Is that really a good price for these little orange squishy things or can they be found cheaper at some other store? My work gets some things at a good price; other things not so much.

Riders for Health began in the minds of Barry and Andrea Coleman and motorcycle Grand Prix rider Randy Mamola in the 1980s, and was finally registered as its own Non-Governmental Organization charity in 1996. During the time before registration, the loose group of people worked within the Grand Prix paddock to gather funds for various African charities. However, it soon became clear that to accomplish their mission, they would have to organize it themselves. So, when they made it official in 1996, the mission became to make sure that every health worker in Africa has some access to reliable transport. This is very important for reaching the most isolated people for health care – and the motorcycle is the best vehicle for the job.
To put it simply, they raise money with several events which are usually held in conjunction with MotoGP Championship series rounds in cities across the globe. They host special up-close and personal rides at various tracks, auctions of amazing objects of desire, and you usually get to meet Randy Mamola – or, of course, Barry and Andrea.
With this money they purchase motorcycles, parts and accessories, and train local mechanics to work on their fleet of bikes. The bikes belong to the local health clinic, hospital or other health operation. This allows these health agencies to take healthy practices – in other words, life - to the most incredibly remote places on this planet. Riders was behind the second ‘around the world’ trip of Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman, “Long Way Down.” Simply put, it is people helping people to help people live.

Hi! I plan on buying a 250 cc bike once I make enough money options trading to make a 20% down payment. My dad rides a Yamaha V Star 650, and I've always wanted to join him and our family friend out riding. Now that I'm 18, I've decided to pursue that hope full-force. As soon as I make the $800 needed for a down payment on a 250 cc bike, I'll take the MSF course and take my license exam.

I've got a few questions:

1. Do you recommend the Yamaha V Star 250 cc? I plan on using it to get around town, do minor errands (go to the bank, post office, pharmacy, etc. Not grocery shopping.), and travel.
2. I'm 5' 11", and 210 lbs, would it possibly too small for me? I plan on trading up to a Raider S once I get enough experience and cash.
3. Do they make saddlebags for the V Star 250, and a sissy bar? I may need to transport stuff or another person
4. Why do people not want to wear proper riding safety gear? It's the only safety gear I know of that looks totally cool.
5. Is it possible to replace the clutch with a lockup torque converter? It can allow for much greater torque when accelerating from a stop due to it providing a greater MA, allow you to stop without going into neutral, and not wear down your transmission as much. Since stop-and-go traffic is probaby where I'll be riding during weekdays. Perhaps me and my dad could find one, and rewire the clutch lever so it activates the lockup mechanism instead.

Thanks so much!

Hi all,

So I am keeping my bike outside (as I don't have a garage and live in an apartment building) and have been using a disc lock to prevent roll away theft (not as worried about the pick it up into a truck thing, until it happens of course....)

Anyways, I have been noticing that, when I remove the lock, some of its paint is left on the rotor. Being outside (in this nasty rainy weather that I have) the rotors are generally a little rusty-ish looking before I ride, but it seems to buff off after getting on the brakes a few times, although the front brake has been squeaking. I was thinking that some brake-clean is in store for the near future.

My question: should I be concerned at all? With the disc lock hurt / reduce the life of my rotors, or is this purely cosmetic? Doesn't look like it has been scratching the rotor or anything.

Thanks!
