I'd like to get into long distance riding and my goal is to do an Iron Butt Rally sometime (11,000 miles in 11 days). As with any marathon, you need to start "training" quite a while before you actually do it.

With this in mind, I've decided that come spring (provided I can get a back rest by then), I'd like to do an Iron Butt run in the area. I plan to super slab it starting in the Twin Cities and going to Fargo, ND to Sioux Falls, SD, to Omaha, NE, to Des Moines, IA, and back to the cities in one weekend. Yahoo maps says it will be about 1,073 miles (leaving from Cottage Grove) and should take a little over 16 hours. That time doesn't take into account gas, food, or sleep stops though.

I plan to ride until I can't ride anymore and then find a cheap motel to sleep for 7 hours then hit the road again. The goal is to do it in 24 hours, but seeing as how it would be my first long distance ride, I won't be upset if takes me more then that. I have to start somehow!

Would anyone be interested in joining me? I plan to super slab it the whole way stopping only for gas, food, and sleep. I'd really like to do it this year still, but I'm not going to attempt this until I have a back rest, and I don't foresee that happening before Christmas.

I'm going to do it regardless, but misery loves company! :bluethum:

Anyone interested?

September was amazingly warm and sunny here, coming close to setting all-time records. October, however, was an exercise in damp and gusty, even showing some early snow. While I am prepared for it, it wasn't very pleasant riding weather.

Now, when we'd normally be looking for our first snowfall and really cold snap, we're seeing 50's and partly sunny for most of the week. Nice! I hope to not have to wash the road sludge off the bike in the dark for a while.
