Hey Dale,

Are your riding buddies contributing to your Arizona Drivers Certificate, or do you have to carry the load alone?

They are going to pay the $150.00. I get the points and will try to arrange traffic school online.

Talking

I've been thinking about your contribution to the State of Arizona (as well as the expensive photo of my car that should be coming in the mail later this week).

What exactly are the reasons for these traffic laws?

IMHO, the traffic laws *should* reflect the situation - you should drive slowly in residential areas, since there is a higher danger of children, balls and housepets appearing from between parked cars. On the highway, you should drive near the same speed as the rest of traffic. If you are too fast or too slow, you are posing a danger to other people.

But, when you are carving through the twisties in the mountains where the only 'danger' is a wild animal or opposing traffic, why should there be traffic fines if you have your bike under control, and are not posing a danger to anyone else?

This is, to me, another case of people making laws when they themselves are not subject to them. In California, some lawmaker sits in Sacramento and decides what speeds will be driven on highways through the desert. WHY? Has this person EVER been on these roads? Does this person even drive a car, or just have a chauffer who takes him everywhere he wants to go? I think that laws should be reviewed or approved by people who are actually affected by them.

And if this is not possible, then the police should at least use common sense to enforce the more "important" laws (DWI, speeding near schools, unsafe lane changes or excessive speeds) and ignore the stupid laws that don't hurt anyone. (Like motorcycles who are fully under control, but still a bit faster than the posted speed limit).

How will the cops know if the rider is under control? How will they know if it's Dale on his bike or the nOOb with the Gixxer just off the showroom floor. Rules and laws are made for the people that are short on "common" sense. I've put common in quotation marks because I find it is not so common. Here I go being cynical again. Better go dig out my Tony Robbins. I'm just pissed because we got a foot of f'in snow over night.

It sure shocked the *ell out of me. I was in leathers planning on mostly 60 and 70 degree temps. Sure wasn't expecting it. My leathers got wet and then froze solid with the windchill! I had loaned my textile gear so leathers were the only option anyhow. The pics were just when it was starting to snow. I wasn't about to slow down for pictures when it started to dump!

HAHAHa, Snow just sucks where ever you live. They even closed down the schools for the day. I can not think of when they have ever closed the schools in the spring time.

I had no idea how masochistic some people were

After reading this it occured to me that my fathe on the last leg of his return trip across the country, started out somewhere in TX and did 1100 and some change back to san diego in under 24 hours.

Then again he was on a big road king harley.

Sounds like a nice day ride! I love long rides, but the ones that go to the Sierras are my favorite! You up for a day ride to Yosemite and back Mike?

Good job, bud. I hope to do a SS around Lake Superior next year or the following. I'm already sore just reading your account, though.

Thanks Clint. I'll never believe another weather report! Up north you best be real careful with the weather! We should have finished in 16 to 18 hours , but the little snow storm really set us back.

If I were to do it again, I would start even earlier, like 2 AM. Being very fatigued and cold it was very difficult to maintain my focus after dark. The less night riding at the end of the journey the better.

I've already planned a second one! But this time it is straight Super Slab to a set destination, then a direct return on the same route. See I have this Craving for a "Whataburger". Well it's 530 miles to Tucson (where I'm from) where I can get one! I have made that run one way in 5 1/2 hours but that was many many years ago before radar and aircraft patrols! No way I'd try it these days!

I can easily do it in 8 hours each way. Plan is to leave LA at 4AM arriving in Tucson at noon. Eat all the Whataburgers I can manage, then hit the highway at 1PM. Should get me back in LA at 9 in the evening. Maybe I should start this one earlier too!

Yes I know, as Nut says, I'm nuckin futs!

I'd rather spend eight hours on a racetrack.

So when are you going? Must still be pretty cold after darkness sets in? Don't go it solo. Find a couple other nuts to try it with. Makes for a good morale booster after the first 10 hours , because misery loves company!
