Thumbs up A Sunny Ride

A couple of weeks ago My wife and I met up with sunny to go for a ride. (Sorry it took so long to get this posted.)Sunny and I had mapped out a route that was about 200 miles on the back roads through several small towns. Well as usual the weather didn’t want to cooperate. We had planned on leaving our house at 1:00 to head down to sunny’s place but we were running late and the weather was looking very threatening so I gave sunny a call and she said that the weather in her area wasn’t bad, “scattered sunshine” was the description she gave, so off we went. As we got closer and closer to sunny’s house it didn’t look promising.

Scattered sunshine my….

Well just past the last possible place we could use for shelter it hit, so for the last six miles we drive through a typical Texas downpour. Not to be deterred we waited it out at sunny’s then decided to don the rain gear and hope for the best.

Happily we hit no more rain and the rest of the trip was fairly uneventful. When we paused in a small town to make sure we were headed in the right direction sunny founs an inventive way to de-bling the pipe on her Shadow.

I'm not sure but I don't think the results were worth sacraficing the rainsuit.

About half way sunny had planed a rest stop in West at a Czech Bakery so we (me and the wifey) could experience our first kolach. Well about ten miles from West I knew the ride was over, my wife was starting to show her displeasure with being seated on the back of the bike for two hours, this was her first real ride of the year so her rear wasn’t broke in yet. So when we arrived at the bakery we decided that this would be a good place to head home from.

The food was great the serving area was in a little quick stop store with an assortment of souvenirs as well.
Sunny found her a little something to remember the trip by.

So after filling our bellies and fuel tanks the parted ways and headed home.

Alright guys....I've been intrigued ever since this thread came about, as to what the hell a Kolache is.

AFTER/as I completed/was completing a lunchtime meal of Popeye's Fried Chicken and a pint of Beans and Rice, I see a little blurb in the Metro section about a Kolache joint opening down the street. So I run out, get a few Kolache's, and low and behold the bastards are selling doughnuts also. Wouldn't you know.....it's buy one get one free. I didn't learn this tidbit of info, until AFTER I ordered. So I come back with two dozen doughnuts and an armload of Kolaches. (And I wonder why I'm experiencing health related issues. Lookit the friggin' way I eat.)

WOW....the Kolaches were incredible, and the doughnuts...........unbelievable...far better than any slop you'd get from a chain.

Thanks for the new addiction guys!

So I still don't quite know what a Kolache is either. Is it some kind of sugary pastry?

Mmm Kolache, this Slovak hasn’t had one for a while.

Think I will make some apricot for Thanksgiving.

there are, however, i don't want to risk my stomach on unknown pastries.

methinks another ride to the czech stop is in order. only this time, we'll skip the scenic route and go straight there.

hill country is very scenic. rolling hills, twisty roads, little podunk towns filled with antique houses, cars, and people..

Nice pics. We tried to make some rides this summer, since it rained every day all spring and summer, we got wet a lot too. My son and I got stuck in that "mini" hurricane that came thru one night, and spent most of the evening under a tin canopy at a marina while it rained 3 inches per hour. But we were entertained by the locals who were drinking beer (drunk) and throwing nets in the lake trying to catch baitfish in a 60 mph wind.
Music was also available, 3 rednecks (also drinking beer) sitting on an old beater pickup w/ Kiss music blaring. I swear they were playing it thru an 8-track. It finally quit raining enough for us to leave Fantasy Island.
