Default 2007 Ride Days Gatlinburg Edition

Gatlinburg, Tennessee with it's family friendly atmosphere. Lush landscape, natural attractions, scenic beauty, day and nightlife, numerous accomodations, and warm Southern hospitality.

But most importantly........ LOTS OF TWISTIES!!!!!

Gatlinburg was the scene of the 2006 Motorcycle-Journal.com Ride Days premier event. With well over 30 bikes riding as far away as Nebraska, Minnesota, Florida, Texas, and Missouri. We had a time tearing up the curves and banks of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Great Smoky National State Park, Hellbender 28, and then to top it off not only rode US129,,but basically stomped that Dragon's ###!!!!!

So it is time again to start the preparation for the next round of events for the next Motorcycle-Journal.com events. But instead of just one ride we will probably have several rides happening throughout the world in conjunction with Ride Days. Not sure if the dates we can work up will be able to happen the same exact dates as the other dates but if not then we will make this one of the official events.

As some of you have already seen in the other thread there are several ideas popping around so this is my entry into the event calendar.

Sometime late June/ early July (dates to be determined) we meet up in Gatlinburg, Tennessee on a Thursday afternoon/evening. Everyone get together for a meet and greet and then let the party begin. NO WAY JOSE's better get that fountain ready for clothes washing again!!!!! Bring on the margaritas!!!

Then on Friday we can do one of two things. We can either run the official ride that day or make a short trip over to Maggie Valley to check the National Motorcycle Museum. Party some more Friday evening (the degree of partying to be determined by the next days events) then Saturday do whichever we did not do on Friday. Leave out Sunday morning back to our destinations.

I figure if we can meet a day early then that will allow more time to socialize as Don and others have suggested they would all like to do. Then if we can get everyone there that is coming by Thursday then we can do the official ride on Friday that way we can beat the weekend traffic on the roads. If not then we can always ride on Saturday as well. Maybe even make a short run over to the Dragon as well.

Once we have dates planned then I can call the Riverterrace Resort and see what kind of deal we can make with them again for this weekend. I will also try to get some restaurants lined up for evening dinner so that possibly we all can go eat and hangout together. Since Pete is in California we may not have a designated truck bed to haul 13 drunk people around in to and from the restaurant this trip unless S2design is up for it.

Rainman is on board with it as well as several other of the Misfits so we can help police the ride like last year that way we can try to keep everyone safe and everyone else can just enjoy the ride.

So let's get the ideas together on dates that we might think will work and see what we can do. If we can work it out then we should have an even better time and turnout then last year.

As some of you have already seen in the other thread there are several ideas popping around so this is my entry into the event calendar

For the mods: is it possible to have a topic called "2007 Ride Days" or whatever, and then have headings under it with some designated location threads. My fear is there may be alot of discussion throughout one thread about various rides going on that day, and many new potential participants may not want to sort through all the threads to get the information.

Something like:
2007 Ride Days
Gatlinburg....
New England...
Colorado...
etc

That was a wonderful place to stay. Good accomodations, covered parking, close to everything. Would definately like to go back.

Unfortuately, Mike will be riding with us this year (hint, hint) so we may need to just stumble home on foot.

Looking forward to another great adventure. Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

So are we discussing dates in this thread?

Before July 4th holiday or after? I lean to before (June)

I'm with Dragbar on this one. I will be on my regularly scheduled non-motorcycle vacation in mid July.

I lean towards after July 4th.

Too hectic at work from late April to about July 10th. That's the time I break out the "How to Win Friends and Influence People" sig.

What about the last weekend in June, around the 28-30th.
Then we can go back to work for 2 days and have July 4th holiday.

How about a tour across the Pyrenees, Alps and Dolomites? That would be about 600 miles of some of the best twisties in the world...enough for about a week of touring!

Well that may work for the last weekend in June. That way we do not hit the July 4th crowd and not the Memorial Day weekend crowd either. Shouldn't be too hot out there at that time either.

So what are the actual days of the last weekend in June??? Definitely do not want to tie it into a July 4th scenario at all.

Only problem with that date is that alot of people will take a few extra days off to make it a long weekend. It will probably be crowded. Might not get the best deal that weekend. But I can see.

So is everyone thinking that is a great date???? If so after we get a few more votes for that date then we can start planning. I do not forsee any major road blocks to that date for me this far into the future but we will need to have a rough idea of how many rooms we will need so I can negotiate it for us.

Last time I asked for 5 rooms to start,, then bumped it to 10,,then to fifteen, etc. If I can go to them and say hey we need a block of rooms with this number. This requirement of each room, etc then I have some negotiating leverage.

I will tell you that they were very impressed with the turnout and how it grew to what it was. If we can have a turnout like that or better this time I can guarantee we should get a good deal.

So whoever is ready to commit let me know.

I wouldn't mind taking Thursday and Friday then Monday and Tuesday off to make it a 7 day weekend. But I am not really sure about the rates. I will check though.

Take Thursday, Friday, then have Saturday and Sunday, then take Monday and Tuesday, and since Wednesday is July 4th that makes 7 days. It is called optimizing your time off math!!!!! LOL!!!!
