Any road is fine with me, a little interstate is fine. 20 miles on the interstate is only a short time anyway.

I don't know which part of I-40 you're talking about but 25/70 is a great motorcycle road from Newport, TN to Hot Springs, NC. and it somewhat parallels I-40 That's probably too far from your proposed route but I thought I'd throw it out there.

By the way, when are y'all coming into town? I'm taking Friday off from work and will be riding in the Shady Valley area. I'll be riding somewhere Saturday too.

Yeah..I just looked at that and it's a ways too far East I think. I'm doing my BEST to keep the mileage down a little UNDER what we did last last year. We'll see once we get to drivin around up there and see what we can do with that little section. It's a pretty remote area so roads through there are a little scarce.

We'll be drivin up on Friday night after work and spending pretty much all day Saturday and part of Sunday driving the roads up there to figure out what we can use and what we can't. We're stayin at the River Terrace and hopefully meet Daniella. Sean said she "sounds" hot anyway.

You're welcome Louis...but I'll tell ya....it's more Sean than it is me. All I've got to do is lay out some roads and drive it once ahead of time. He's the one that does the lion's share of the work. I can't tell you how many calls he made last year getting everything set up.

Ouch,,swollen head startin' to form here. Can't ride tomorrow now since my helmet no longer fits. Thanks All but this year we will have re-inforcements. A2 and "J" will be checking out the nightlife and sweet talking bars and restaurants to seeing if they will be able to offer any deals or reservations.

So looking forward to getting the route together and thowing you all a bone to see what is in store. But by far Rainman will be pulling equal load this year.

Well that makes 21 rooms!!!! I will ask for another five this weekend. As of right now we only have 5 rooms left on the block. I suspect that after we make the route up we will probably quite a few more people. There are still a few Misfits that are waiting till the last minute to come on board but that is nothing new for them.

If there is anyone else contemplating going please go ahead and make the reservations so I can have some bargaining leverage this weekend.

Less than 2 1/2 months to go!!!!!!

Hey all,,, spoke with Giovanna yesterday. She is going to see about bumping our room allocation to 30 rooms. We now have 21 rooms reserved which is what we had last year. Looks like this will be as big if not bigger than last years turnout. If you are going to make reservations please contact Giovanna. She is the best point of contact for the trip.

Ok folks - since we're only about 2 1/2 months out, there's a few things we should probably talk about.

First - Those of you who went with us last year can testify to this: These are some of the most challenging motorcycle roads anywhere in the world. There will be thousands of curves and who knows what hazards we'll encounter along the way. The best way to be prepared for it is to make sure your bike is in shape.

Please don't let me catch anyone with bald tires. I WILL KICK YOU OFF THE RIDE FOR THIS. Your tires don't have to be new, but if they're too bad, don't be surprised if we have a little discussion about you not riding with the group that day. When you've got a large group like this, having someone along with a bike that shouldn't be on the road is only asking to have everyone's trip ruined by an accident or unnecessary breakdown. As a Road Captain, I hate to tell someone they're bike isn't ok to ride, but this is not just a quick jaunt across town. We will be in remote areas where getting help will be hard and your tires are definately going to get a workout - just ask the folks that saw mine last year.

Fair Warning: If your bike has obvious safety problems - you will be asked to stay behind.

Secondly - check your battery, your bike's charging system, your fluid levels and all your lights and signals. It's no fun if we have to leave a handful of folks behind to take care of your breakdown. Breakdown's happen - it's a fact of life, but if you have one over something you should have checked to begin with - you're more than likely going to win the Bozo award and have more than a few folks cussing you under their breath.

Lastly - make sure your gear is up to snuff. Frankly, I could care less what you wear because it's your skin to do with what you want. I'll probably be in a T-shirt and jeans myself, but do yourself a favor and wear a good pair of boots and have a good helmet with some form of eye protection. I'm a firm beliver in personal choice in this area, but long pants and light jacket are recommended for your own comfort.

Anyway, now's the time to start getting your bike in shape and making plans for whatever maintainence/service you're going to need. Make sure your bike is in tip top shape and maybe we'll have an "event" free ride like we did last year.

Oh...one last thing. ANY time we stop for gas, please go ahead and top off. Please don't be the one guy that's having to pass the word along that you need gas because you didn't fill up when we stopped 40 miles back. It's just a courtesy thing to everyone so please - take advantage of the stops we do make so that we don't have to make extra ones just for you. Also - STAY HYDRATED. Don't forget to get a water bottle and take a swig every now and then. We'll HOPEFULLY be out in the sun all day so keep hydrated so you stay alert and sharp. It's easier to get dehydrated on a motorcycle than you think.

Later folks - I'm off to Gatlinburg for the recon run. Have a good weekend and be safe out there!

Rainman

The 4 of us have just arrived at the River Terraces in Gatlinburg. STP1971's busy playing with the fireplace in our room. Apparently he's a closet pyro. The room (same rooms we'll have in June) has a nice view of the river and downtown Gatlinburg.

Hey,,stp here.....killer fireplace with the river trickling outside. Nice and cool here right now. Looks like they have been remodling since last year. Giovanna left us her cell number and whoops,,she is calling now.

Gotta go check out some bars and the nightlife.

Got a few questions...

What are the dates again, June 7th - ???

Are there any females booked solo in a room?

I'd like to go but have to hold out on a few more things. Registration for the next semester isn't until later this week so I won't know what my college schedule will look like 'till then. No worries on the dayjob, bossman's already reminded me I haven't had a vacation in over 2 years; big hint that my vacation days are built up a bit much. I also won't know until later this week if I'll have some help at home with my kids to be able to go - if I am able to go, I'll be solo because Chimp will be in Iraq.

Sean (STP1971) can tell you for sure, but I don't think there are any women booked solo in a room, but there are a few that are riding solo, So if your looking for a female roommate, you might be out of luck, but if you are worried that you would be the only girl riding your own bike, don't.

The dates are June 7th to the 10th.

Shoot "STP1971" a PM, him' and "Rainman" are doing a pre ride of the planed route right now, but I'm sure he will get back to you right away.

Saying hello here is fine, but about the only people that are going to see it, are the ones thinking about doing the Dragon trip. Yo might want to go to the Lobby, and introduce yourself there.
See ya in June!
