| CENTRAL NEW YORK/ NORTH MOTORCYCLE RIDE 7-15-06 RAIN DATE = 7-22-06 A ride has been organized for Saturday July 15 and if forecast is calling for rain it will be postponed until Saturday July 22nd (Times will stay the same no matter when we ride). I will check the weather forecast by 7-12-05 and a decision will be made. Emails will be sent out then to those who have registered (please see below for details) indicating if the ride is on for 7-15 or postponed. The purpose of the ride is to enjoy the scenery and meet fellow enthusiasts. We will not be testing the upper limits of the speed of our bikes. That being said, we will stay within the posted speed limits. The day of the ride, we will meet at the Thruway exit in Utica, NY on the parking area on the left as you go threw the toll booths at approximately 10:00am (to allow people from afar to arrive). We will have a brief ride meeting to discuss the formation we will ride in and any details. If someone needs gas then we will be driving by a station and can stop (within a mile off the Thruway exit). We will leave at approximately 10:15 am travel north up NYS RT 12 and we will stop at the Kwick Fill in Alder Creek, NY. We should arrive there at about 11:00am. Here we can top off the tanks if we want, and/or grab a cup of coffee, etc. as it is about 25 miles before the next gas station (from what I remember). At the Alder Creek Kwick fill we will meet to discuss our time in Old Forge. At that time I will hand out some information about Old Forge and we will (by group consensus) decide how long we will have for “free time” in Old Forge. There are some people supposed to join us at the “Kwick Fill for the ride as well. ”We should arrive at Old Forge at about 11:45am or so. We will stop at the first gas station in Old Forge and re-meet for any questions and to re-affirm the afternoon meeting time. Once we have agreed on a meeting time people can go on there own (or stay together if they wish) in Old Forge. There are many places right along the main route including a McDonald’s and many other local eateries. The times are approximate. Please try to arrive early at the Thruway or at the Kwik Fill so we all can begin the ride on time so the group does not have to wait. For emergency purposes, my cell phone number is (315) 335-4225 but I cannot hear it while riding. I will check the phone prior to leaving the stops. For those who are not familiar, we will be traveling through areas where there are plenty of wildlife, so we should all stay alert for deer, road kill, etc. We will also be going to beautiful country through the Adirondack Mountains so if you are so inclined, bring your cameras. If you would like to scope out the attractions in Old forge before that morning, please visit http://www.oldforgeny.com/. Please register by dropping me an email at semerm12@dreamscape.com to let me know how many bikes you will be bringing and your name at least 3 days before the ride. Because we may have a large group, we will not wait a long time after 10:15 am for everyone in Utica but if we hear someone is close (via cell phone) we will wait a few minutes. Anyone with ANY type of motorcycle can come. Please pass this info on to others. The more the merrier! As of 5-29-06 approximately 20 people have indicated that they are interested in the ride. I hope to see you there. Mark Semeraro |
