Default Idle question

I have a 98 RM 125 and it doesn't want to idle. I will take the carb apart later today. My question is do you turn the choke knob left or right looking from top to turn idle up? Thanks.

My choke knob says idle adj. with arrows. Just not which is up or down. I never adjusted idle with air screw.

Turn the choke knob in clockwise all the way. Then back it out 12 clicks (2 turns)

This adjustment afects the carb from full closed to 3/8 open

Clockwise is richer mixture
Counter clockwise is a leaner mixture

We are having the same issues our 93 RM250 'after' we cleaned the carburetor. The idle screw wont do a darn thing so we were thinking maybe we damaged the slide or cleaned a rubber grommet into submission. A person on another forum suggested that sometimes a wearing crank seal will cause the idle to become non-tuneable.

In the past, An air leak will raise idle or make it surge up and down. All the bikes I have worked on in the past have a screw in the side that acts like a cam that pushes the slide up as you screw in. I like those a lot better.
