Default Just got an '87 SP125 - couple of questions

I just bought an 1987 SP125 on eBay and I have a couple of questions.

1. What is the 'P' position used for on the key switch?

2. This bike is missing the left side cover/number panel. Does anyone know of a good source for finding this part?

3. The battery needs replacing. Should I use the the orignial spec 6n4-2b battery or is there a better replacement battery to upgrade to?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I run this thing around a bit more.

In order.....

1) P is for Park which will leave a light on incase you are stranded at night you can use it so you can be seen.

2) You may find Suzuki still offers this part. If not try some of the Motorcycle breakers in Cycle News.

3) Use the same spec battery that was in the bike from the factory.
Yuasa is an excellent battery

Thanks for the reply. The "P" position makes sense now. It just wasn't doing anything when I turned the key there. I'm sure it's because my battery is dead. I'll plan to pick up a new battery today.

Picked up a new battery yesterday, charged it up and put it in. Now all the lights, horn etc work properly again. However, nothing seems to be on when I put the key in "P". Which light should be on?

Also, for the side cover, I found a listing for the part on a Suzuki dealer site but it says it has discontinued. Looks like I'll need to find a salvager if I'm going to find it.

If it is in P it would be the tail light and either a front running light or in your case the turn signals since it is a dual purpose bike.

Thanks Dave,

I just checked it again and I can see that the tail light is indeed on.
