| I have an 03 JR50 but it is bone stock. I would have responded if I had any info for you but I didn't. They are great machines for kids to learn on and they seem to be very well built as I have had zero problems with it and my son rides it almost every day! My sons JR50 only has neutral and 1st gear. That is it for the gearbox, so I am unsure what you mean by gears? Are you talking about sprockets? Last edited by Dave2122; 05-05-2005 at 03:29 PM. |

| No I did a search here for "JR50 MODS" and come up with some thing about it having 2 gears..It come stock in 2nd...you need to mod some thing in the gear box to get it in 1st(For the bigger hill)...But I dont know WTF they were talking about?? My son is a VERY fast learner and had is firts race last weekend (Got blown away by the KTM50's)...So I am looking around for some things to do,for now till he gets bigger then the bike goes to his sister, to make it go faster. I odered a "Fatty Pipe" that will come by the end of the week...Now I am looking into the sprocket thing...been looking around but only found stock ones... 1. Looking for the Gear Box MOD... 2. Looking for a bigger rear Sprocket... 3. Anyother Mods...(New or Shave the head, bore out the cylinder 1-2-3mm???)... 4. Just Break down and get him a better bike (KTM50...???).. | Ive looked at doing that mod to my sons bike but decided its not worth it. Didnt want to ruin that metal piece and be left ordering a new one for a nasty price. Lets face it, that little bike is really not made for steep unless you get a good running start. My son rides mostly trail with it and I have to get a kick stand for the amount of times I need to put my bike down to help him out. He rushes some vert lips and the bike is actually dangerous for that type of stuff (rolling backwards). He does really well though with the running start. Some things I have done was change his piston to a Wiseco one, remove his oil resorvoir and run premix, and put some of those red millville mud tires. Those helped. I saw that FMF fatty combo but was hesitant because of the price. For that amount of money, I really dont think it will be cost worthy. Id like to know how it works for you though. Keep me informed. As for larger tires, personally I wouldnt burden the motor.

| Plus, I believe that elongating that hole with make first gear a click upward which means it will be really easy to step it into neutral while on a hill climb. Not good.

| WOW some one that responded...Thanks!!! I did put on the 2.75x10 tires and the fatty pipe. It has some more torque but again just not like a KTM 50 (Which Im looking to buy)...I also drilled out the main jet 2 sizes bigger and that helped too....next is the main sprocket...going to a 12 from the stock 13...we shall see...he loves it, he just became 5 and rides like he has been ridding forever...(riding only 3 months)...He just keeps asking me to make it faster like the other bikes he rides with...(KTM Pro 50's)...I will some day get him a KTM or a LEM 50 but I want him to be REAL used to riding..(MX Rider)...This bike is going to his sister when she becomes 5 shes 3 right now...I just bouhgt this bike and NOW I wish I would have done more looking around and got him a better (MX) bike!...o well...Live and learn! |

| Yeah, its a great starter bike for sure. I too have been eyeing up the KTMs and will probably opt for one by the end of the year. I had my son on his JR from about 3 1/2. Suited him fine back then. Now hes a little taller and needs some real power. Did changing the main jet help much?

| Some what...the bike has no bottom torque...(2hp)..To get this torque, the Top end must be milled down to raise the compresion (3-5 hp)...The KTM Pro 50's come with 5-12hp. And have a bigger rear sprocket...More low end torque... I just wished the dealer told me that this JR50 was for 3-5 yo that NEVER road a bike before...I guess little sister will get this bike with some training wheels soon... Any thoughts on a bike called a Macbor 510 50cc's ??? Thanks |

| Ive only seen the macbor's on the web. Might be decent, the spaniards make some decent bikes (gasgas). Ive seen the polinis around the track and they seem like rockets. I would be more concerned with replacement parts availability, especially if youre going to race it. Shouldnt be too much of a problem though. Wish Suzuki made a good inbetween bike.
