Cool LT 250 r Rad valve

I want to get a rad valve for my 87 lt 250r quadracer, but I was told that it doesn't fit on the 87. Can some one tell me if this is true, Also if I have a fmf exhaust on it and I put the rad valve on do I have to jet the carb. The motor is stock. Thanks alot....
