Default My friend is fixing a 75 RM125 and it needs a CDI

Hello and good day,

I am glad I found this forum and hopefully you can answer a question that will help my buddy a great deal (he is fixing an RM125 for a neighbors kid).

He is fixing a 1975 RM125 and it appears the CDI is not working. Everything else is working ok and tests fine but sometimes there is spark and sometimes there is no spark.

So he has to buy a CDI for the bike, and aren't they fun to locate 30 years after they are produced !

The bike has no points (it is a Canadian version if there is a difference), and I notice that many of the CDI boxes are for bikes with points until about 77.

Can the CDI from other years be used on the 75 ?

I see one on ebay for a 77/78 that looks like the same wires coming out but I would rather be sure and someone here just may know !

Thanks for reading, any help would be appreciated.

There is a guy on the internet that supplies OEM parts for old RM's. Do a search and you will fid him... If I can I will get the info for you. He had everything I needed to restore an 1977 RM370! Great service and prices!

I am a powersports parts dealer, but my microfitch only goes back to 1985. Let me know if you have a part number, and I can try to find it for you.

I know of a guy in New Zealand who manufacturers CDI's for ll sorts of bikes, and have actually just bought one for my XT550. They are quite cheap and have a 1 yea warranty as well. His name is Wayne Gum, and is at wayne@erd.co.nz I can highly recommend him and his products. I live in South Africa, which is halfway around the world from where he is, and he was very good in dealing with my order etc. Email him, he may be able to assist you with what you need.
