| Where Am I ? | this is a really good question, i have been longing for the answer too! as my uncle has a YZ250f, and im intrested in buying it because it is at a good price my opionons about 4 strokes.. hmm umm.. well.. personnaly, i DONT like them, but there are getting more common. and there more enviromentaly friendly i reckon, if ur doin a lot of slow stuff, hillclimbs, etc. go a four banga, but if ur just going nuts on fire trails and out the back padacks, go a 2 banga.

| Seat Tester | 4 strokes are better. i like 2 strokes. 4 strokes are way more reliable. they have more lower end and are easier to ride. they are harder to start. 4 strokes are usually heavier and harder to work on. they dont foul plugs. they are usually quieter (when stock).

| Well I have raced 2 strokes in MX and 4 strokes in roadracing. I think the 2 stroke is a much more cost effective way to race and is more competitive. It does not cost more than a few hundred dollars to rebuild the motor. I have raced an entire MX season on 2 sets of Pistons and 3 sets of rings plus gaskets roughly 350 dollars! Plus I had no DNF's You can not get more reliable than that! The 2 stroke is lighter and more powerfull(it takes a 450cc 4 stroke to make the power of a 250cc 2stroke) The 4 stroke is harder to start once it stalls after a crash. The motor on a 4 stroke needs a piston and rings at least once in a full season of MX and the cost is 3 times as much as a 2 stroke. the only advantage the 4 stroke has in my opinion is that they allow a 250 4 stroke to race in a class made up of 125 2 strokes! |

| Power to weight is much better on 2 strokes, with that comes a shorter lifetime (typically) they also burn more fuel and pollute more and noiser. 4 strokes: quieter, last longer, and heavier. One nice advantage to 4 stroke, is a wider powerband, and more power on the lower end, and better traction in the dirt, for a given RPM. |

| I have had both and I had to go back to a two stroke....they are lighter, faster, easier to ride, in my opinion.... 2 Strokes - Lighter Faster Better weight to power ratio Easier to start Easier to work on They don't have valves or a cam Easier to jet You have to cluth more (however, i still had to work my 4 stroke to get around the track so that is largely a misnomer) 4 Strokes - Good usable low end power, not punchy like a 2 stroke (but I like punchy) don't foul plugs very often Very hard to start, especially if you have fallen Feel heavy, cumbersome Great for hill climbing Hard! to work on...expensive to work on.... They don't sound as good as a two stroke I know it comes down to personal opinion, and I may be in the minority, however, I have bumped into more and more people that are going back to two stroke because they are better.... It seems that the 2 stroke 125 is pretty much dead, because they can't run with a 250 4 stroke, however, the 250 can still hang and is faster in some ways, not to mention, lighter and easier to control.... Personally, I just think they are better.....how can it be better to need twice the displacement to get the same speed and horsepower? Is that more efficient? Long live the two stroke! |
