Default JR50 Jetting...

Been running into problems with my son's JR50. Really hard to start at times and carb seems to be flooding. Opened up the carb and found that the main jet had started unscrewing and was almost all the way out. While I was in there, I noticed in the pilot jet hole, there are two jets screwed directly on top of each other. Why are there two jets put in this way? Can I removed one?

Also, Ive heard of removing something inside the carb that will wake the little bike up. Has anyone heard of this?

Lastly, I lost the damn manual that came with the bike. Can anyone tell me how to tune the two adjustment screws?

Im about to give up on this bike already, not the best suzuki purchase Ive made. Love my RM250 and DRZ125, but the JR is so flaky.

Thanks.

Check the float height on the carb as it sounds like it is set wrong. Not sure why you have 2 pilot air screws? take them both out and see if the # is the same. The assembler must have put 2 in by accident. I have a 2003 JR 50 and the bike starts right up and runs good. To unrestrict the bike you need to remove the washer that is tack welded into the exhaust pipe header flange. You can also remove the throttle stop and the bike will go much faster. There is no restriction in the airbox. To tune the Air Screw adjustment on the carb turn the air screw all the way in and back it out 1 1/4 turns. Now turn the idle screw until you can get it to idle steady as low as possible without stalling. Now you can turn the air screw a 1/4 either way and fine tune the carb.

Look at #2 and #3 in this microfiche. http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_03...carburetor.cfm
I confirmed it as well by taking the first one out. Also, I took the washer and the throttle limiter screw out as well. A local mechanic told me to drill out a screw in the carb and it will wake the bike up. Ill find out from him where that thing is located. I was thinking it may be one of the pilot jets as thats the only other screw I can see in the carb.

Thanks for the info on tuning the carb, cant find that darn manual. I know my wife hid it. But hey, Im not sure at what level that float needs to be adjusted to. How should I go about this? I have a 1 year old so this bike needs to survive for several more years and make it to his three year initiation date

Ok I see what you are talking about. The way I read your post it sounded as though there was one Pilot screw over the top of another

I believe the guy you talked to was suggesting you drill out the main jet but you can confirm this with him a you said.

My son started riding his JR 50 a week before his 4th B-day. He saw me unload it and asked why I had it and I said it was for your Birthday next week. He asked me "can I ride it now?" I said SURE! My son flys around the house now and even highsided it once. I thought he would never ride it again after that crash but he got right back on and kept going.

I had installed a set of the training wheels that the guy on EBay sells. Just look up JR50 and you will see them. I paid 45.00 plus shipping. Very good product and bilts right on.

Hey I bought the same training wheels, they are awesome and of way better construction than the 120 dollar ones that the local Suzuki dealer sells.

I had my son on his bike a couple of months after his 3 year birthday. He took out a gutter on my neighbors house and now he is much more cautious than I would like him to be. Ive relaxed now, he just turned 4, and I stopped using any pressure on him to ride. He rides excellent already but he is not the charging type anymore. Still it makes me happy just to see him go out there for an hour or two.

Parental lesson learned. Dont force them or it will frustrate, they need time to grow at their own pace.

Default JR50 update...

Well, I got the bike tuned and running great once again. Feels just like when I bought it. When I get the chance Ill go and visit the mechanic at Suzuki and ask him about drilling out the screw and exactly what screw it is. Im sure someone else can benefit from it here as I havent heard anyone ever mention it. Ill post it when I have the answer and verify it on my sons bike.
