Question after market skid plate

I just bought a 2006 DR650 and noticed a low RPM grumble noise that went away when you increased the RPM's. The old owner said it was from the after market skid plate. I took off the skid plate and sure enough the noise went away. Have any of you had this problem and can it be corrected by spraying the inside surface with some spray on bed liner or something similar.

I don't plan on doing a lot of off road stuff but wouldn't mind having it back on just in case. Thanks. Craig.

stick some medium density foam in between the skid plate and cases. it will keep mud from getting stuck in there as well as muffle the sound. most skid plates come with it.
