Question drz400s or drz650

I am looking at a dual sport bike that I will be using about 70% on road, 30% dirt bike. I am 6-00, 250. I am a bit concerned that the 650 is to big and heavy for off road stuff. Help me if you can. Thanks. I am looking at a used bike, 2000 or so.

Exactly the same dilemma I'm facing. Welcome to M-J, Craig.

I think I would like the smaller one but will be doing some 150 mile days for fishing and figure the 650 might be a better bet. I currently have a 92 dr350, great little bike but I didn't realize when I bought it that in a year or two later it became an electric start which I would prefer. My 92 starts great when it is cold but can be a bit finicky when it is hot and being restarted. good luck.

For your size and weight I would go with the 650. The 400 will feel really underpowered on the street, especially if you plan on doing any highway riding. Might want to also check out the KLR650...

I agree with the 650 if you will be on the road any more than 50% of the time. and the 650 is much more capable off road than it looks

you wouldn't believe the trails I've seen this beast roll over

Oh yeah. I forgot about the XR650's. They look more off road capable than the KLR's but I havent ridden either.
