Default Questions about my 1994 yz250

I am wondering if anyone can give me a hand with a couple of things about my new bike. I just got my 1994 yz250 off of ebay and paid only 1000 for it. I drove 1000 miles to pick it up and love it. One of theproblems that I have discovered is that the chain is soo loose that it is ratteling on the chain guide. I guess that I will just take out a couple of links. The rear rim has a hairline crack in it and after my trip I can not afford a brand new one. My buddy said that he will sell me his used ones in good condition for really cheap. They are off of a 97. Will they fit my 94? I also discovered on the trip home that one of the fork seals is leaking. I don't know how hard of a job it would be to change these out. The local shop wants 150 to change them out. My buddy also said that he would sell me his front forks for 100 and would be an easy swap. Would these 97 forks fit my 94? Lastly the engine run s fine, but seems to be flatining out for a second in the middle of the rpm range. I don't know what exactly would be causing this. Any help to get this bike into great shape would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking a look.
