From your description, in this case, I would start with the pilot jet. they are really small, and almost impossible to clean, and they are cheep, just get a new one.

The other thing that comes to mind, is you might need to adjust your float level.
agreed.

Just a thought, but I have seen corrosion in the stator cause a weak spark. Once the motor is turning a bit faster, runs like a dream. Just that kicking does not create enough "charge" to start the bike.

Whats up guys? Sorry buisness has been going threw the roof ever since the sun desited to stay out. Privateer you have asked about adjusting the floats, I know how it works on cars and trucks as far as measurments need to make them work; however when I pulled of the bowl it seem to me the floats were wide open. But the funny thing is when I lay the bike on its side to see roughly how there set it takes some time to get fuel to come out the over flow..Madwrench73 you have hit on a good guestion. When My son helps me pull start My bike And I stop to try to get the bike to idle I have to keep the RPM's up and still cant get it to Idle..Im going to rebuild it my self, waiting for all the parts to get here, still.Orderd them this afternoon But just really trying to figure this out because trouble shooting a dirt bike is something I havent spent much time doing. Just to let You guys and the webmaster of this site know you all have been awsome to talk to and so glad I came across here... TaTa for now..

Thank you the_privateer for the float diagram, You Rock: About the stator I looked at it and It looks like the little 2 tabs don't look like they are even making a connection to the raised conductor. Am I way of base or should they be making contact like the points system in a vehicle? A friend keeps saying " sounds like your timing is of ". Dirt bikes don't have adjustable timing like a car right? Im definatly going to rebuild it my self because I have learned alot so far. I have been riding for about 12 years but never needed to troubleshoot so many problems like these, I scored the bike at a killer deal; however new stuff started to pop up.

Those tabs should not make contact. There is such a thing as "air gap". If the pick-up coil is too far away from the raised conductors on the magneto rotor, it would cause a weak spark. It should be about 4-5mm away from the conductors on the mag. Also, I'm not sure what your friend means by your timing being off, but it is not adjustable. The mag is keyed to the crankshaft and I have seen cases where the key shears or partially shears and the mag spins slightly causing the ignition timing to be off. You could pull the mag off and inspect the key and keyways. Good luck with it.

Ok guys here is the deal, went out and looked and adjusted a few things, cleaned and adjusted the floats. however the most confusing thing to me is why after three or four kicks do I get a big fire and then it will be five or six kicks? I even got pull started today and whithen 10 to15 feet it fired right up and I havent started or roud it for a month or so.

Hey guys I'm new. I'm 17 and i just bought my first real dirt bike. It's a 2000 yz125 and its doing EXACTLY what cing31fans bike is doing and i was just wondering if he had figured out what was wrong with his bike?
My bike was running good and then it just died while my dad was riding it and now it will only start when we pull it!! i cant figure out whats wrong i pulled the carb and cleaned it out and it seemed to be ok but now it still wont kick start and its getting frustrating cuz i havn't had it for more than 2 weeks, and i just put a new clutch in it!! Any help you could give us would be great. thanks

Yes sorry my friend .You should just for the hell of it check your compression. should be around 160 as low as 125 around there. This is if you dont want to go threw all the stuff we talked about. Even if you wanted pull the top end off it will take you about hour and look to see if its scared. Its easy to do and fast.
