Question how to make my 1985 rm 250 faster?

I am 14 years old and ride moto x. The best 250 i could aford was a 1985 rm 250 in really good condishion. Its fast but just not fast enough. I was wondering about puting a performance pipe on it but i have no idea where to get one for a bike this old? I thought about weighting the fly wheel but if i am correct that would lower top end power and rase low end power. If that is true i don't want that cuss i love top end power its just the way i learned to ride i guess. i don't really want to lean it out or enything like that because i need it relitivly reliable so im not blowin engines every five laps (not enough money). So if enyone has eny ideas on how to get more power out of this bike that I believe is completly stock i would be glad to hear from you! another question is if i could put a bigger tire on or somthing because i only weigh 110 pounds. i already lowered the air pressure to get more bite out of it. O and i have a hell of a time starting it because im so light and it has a fresh engine with 170 compression. I guess there is probly no way to start it easyer but i would be glad to hear from u thanks

for more power i recomend getting the head milled, this will raise the compression which will give you more power everywhere and is probably the best bang for the buck of any performance mod, about $60 at your local machine shop. you will need better gas than the garbage sold at most gas stations, or you can mix 91 octane with some Klotz Hitrate to prevent detonation. for the back tire you could probably go as wide as 130 or so but the wider the tire the harder it will be to manuver. I would recommend the flywheel weight for more traction. It won't take anything off the top end of the bike, it will just make it wind up a little slower, sub-due the hard hit of the powerband a little, but give much much greater traction and be less likely to stall in slower sections.

Thanks alot for the help! I know of a couple bike machine shops but wat should I ask for when I'm there? Another thing, if this gives me more compression then i will never be able to start it will I? It has a fresh top end right now and has 170 compression so I have a heck of a time starting it, it seems to just flud it alot of the time do u think one of those 10 dollar plugs would help? thanks for the help!

the problem with flooding is probably in your starting technique. you should turn on the choke and give it a hard kick with out giving it any gas.

if its bogging out in the lower rpms and this is causing the flooding then you need to adjust the jetting (leaner).

you should get on All Things Moto! - All Things Moto! they will take you from beginner to pro in no time.

motorcycle journal is an awsome site for street bike knowledge but there isn't a lot of enthusiasm for the offroad aspect here

If the bike starts every time...ride it. If your tracks are hard dry and slippery, try the flywheel weight. The less sophisticated suspension may be slowing you down more than any lack of horsepower. The more power you've got the more the wear on the rider and it will make the suspension deficiencies stand out more. Save your dough, polish your riding, and save for one of the newer bikes. Even the early to mid 90's bikes are so much better chassis wise it's not a smart move to put alot of dough into your current scoot.
