| I have a 97 yamaha rt180 and I went and rode it today for the first time in a while. It had some trouble starting but thats probibly just bad gas. But my problem is it goes from regular idle to wot for no reason at all. For example, I can come to a complete stop with my hand off the throttle and it will jump to wot for no reason at all. It was doing this when I first got it and my dad shot some wd40 in the grip, it seemed to work but this problem keeps comming back and its getting worse. Wd40 doesnt affect it anymore. I want to fix the problem the right way so I dont have to keep messing with it. Thx for the help guys. |

| I had a snowmobile do that once... it hit a large Elm tree in the neighbor's yard at about 30 mph. I hadn't ridden it once after buying it. It wasn't a cable issue, either. It also was a 1997 model. No clue, bud. Check all soft parts (carb boots, vacuum lines, etc.) for breakage, maybe.

| Will do. I just cant seem to see why it would do that. I can hear the throttle click off when I turn the gas ( while its off) so I dont know if the throttle cable is the problem. This is buggin the hell outta me. I guess ill just start tearin it down and see whats up.

| I had the same problem on my rm 250 it turned out that it was because I was riding at a sand track and sand got into the throttle mechanism. So all I had to do was take the twist grip part ( sorry for the improper termanoligy) all apart and clean it out. I also had sand get inbetween the piston in the carb and that results in the same problem so u can check that to. Good luck!

| FYI- don't use wd40 for a lubricaint, all it does is displace water and then evaperate and you get bare contact between what you were trying to lube
