Default RM125 Cylinder Swap

Just recently bought a 2002 RM125 for my son to ride. Checked it out and it seemed to run OK, idled low and a couple of other small problems that wasn't a big deal for me to fix. Got it home and started working on it when I decided to pull the cylinder head and noticed that the top 1/4" of the cylinder wall was pitted and jagged from apparently running the bike way too lean. I have a line on a 2003 cylinder at a good price but I'm not sure if it will fit the 02 because of the different exhaust valves. I asked the local Suzuki dealer and all he could tell me was that the cylinder part number was the same for 2001 to 2004 but really didn't know if the 03 exhaust valves/cylinder would fit on an 02 motor. My only other choice is to get the cylinder re-sleeved. If anyone has experience on this I would like to hear from them.
Thanks
Freddy

Have you found anyone with the proper info on this subject? I have an 03 RM125 and I need a cylinder but am not sure what years fit. If you have either found info or tried it yourself please let me know how it worked out.

http://www.yamahaoftroy.com/fiche_section_detail.asp ... it looks like the cylinders all are different from the parts #s. As far a cylider resleeving, there is good and bad. The stock cylinder on most all modern two smokers are all nicklesealed(sp?) for best performance and durablity. You can have the stock cylinder bored out and press a cast iron sleeve into place. Your options are a little more open now as far as over boring to the next size up if you seize it again. But, you will have better performance with the stock plated cylinder ... if your son is riding trails or light MX ( not super competive ), it should not matter too much. Good luck & to the forums to both of you .
