| This is my first bike. The manual suggests the usual services/inspections at 600 miles, then 3000 miles, etc. However, each service would cost around $250 (primarily inspections) to do it proffesionally. Can anyone give me some tips or insight on how to maintain my bike w/o spending so much CASH? What are the crucial inspections/services? Suggested maintenance inspections/services: - tighten nuts & bolts - manual suggests to do proffesionally, but couldn't I do that myself? - lube and grease - how often should I really do this? - Valve clearance - manual suggests to do proffesionally, what do you think? I'd really appreciate any suggestions~~ I don't want to fall into the consumer spending trap when I could have done most of the work myself for way less money. Thanks!!!! |

| If you have the time, tools and know how do it yourself. Tightn nuts/bolts and lube oil/filter change are easy to do on most bikes. The valve check/adjustment needs to be done right to avoid engine damage so if you don't know how to do it buy a repair manual or let a shop do it.

| Thanks! Yeah... I figure I'd spend a little time on Sat. to go over all the nuts and bolts on my bike and make sure they are not loose. How often should I really check my valve clearance though? My bike has like 1600 miles... |

| The repair manual for my 2005 GZ250 states that the valves should be checked/set at the first 600mi and then every 3000mi.
