Default DR250 - No Battery?

Hi folks. I've just bought a used DR250S which has been imported in to the UK from Japan. I've got the Clymer manual and as far as I can tell, this bike is supposed to have a battery - but it hasn't! All the electrics seem to work fine when the bikes running (lights/indicators/etc) and so I guess they are being powered directly from the alternator (or something similar?).

Should this bike have a battery? Has it been wired in some way to bypass the need for one? If so, are there are disadvantages to not having a battery?

Any help is appreciated.

Kind regards.
John.

Default Battery

The S model I have the battery is just in front of the tool box under the side cover. It's pretty small.

Thanks Irwin, but the battery is definitely not there! When I turn the ignition on I have no neutral light, or any other electrics functioning, until the engine is started.

Do you know whether some models (this is a Japanese bike) came without a battery, or has the previous owner wired the bike up in such a way as to negate the need for one?
