Well I don't know how long the ride is. I heard it was 54 mi so we may have time to do Talimena and more. Someone mentioned Winding Stair and Mountain Pass hwy 259 was really nice. Looking at it on a map you could start out in Talihina go to 259 and take it to Octavia, turn around and come back to the senic route and then head into Mena. I have 3gb of memory for my Digital and I plan to use it. Any other suggestions would be welcome. We don't have to be in Mena until 5pm.

If you can resist stopping to enjoy the many vistas and attractions along the way, the route takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive. A leisurely drive with stops can take all day.

The last time I went I stopped at every vista and didn't spend as much time as I would have liked to it took all day and still didn't see it all.

by the way make sure you eat at Queen Wilhelmina lodge!
it is good food, cheap and one heck of a view.

FYI Talimena drive is home to the highest points between the Appalachians and the Rockies. It is also the highest east-west mountain range in America.

Check this out

Well Tomorrow is the big day. We will leave the house at 6:00am to get to the meeting point at 7:30am. Then leave for Oklahoma at 8:30am. Over 70 bike going! We should hit Talihina OK around 12:30pm and we'll be on our own until 4:30 when we check in to the hotel in Mena AR

If your in the area would like to meet up with you. I like to put faces to those I harass.

i looked this ride up on there website and it looks awesome. a friend and i were planning another trip to the arkansas pig trail the 21st of this month, but now i think we'll detour to the talimena highway. we did the pig trail earlier this year, so this will be a new ride and i can hardly wait. hope the weather stays decent. later, bud

Hey bud, where are you from? I live in Ft. Smith, just down the road from the Pig Trail....a buddy at work swears it's a great ride...maybe we can hook up and ride it someday...

chadrob30, i'm in kansas city. talked it over with my friend last night and we may try to ride both(pig trail and talimena). i'm semi-retired, so i can get away about anytime, but my friend(actually my girlfriends son)sells insurance and he has to sort of wait and see what's cookin' that week. plans now would be to leave thursday and drive to fort smith, make that our home away from home, ride the pig trail friday and the talimena saturday. again, a lot depends on the weather. i'm headed out this weekend to visit my mom and go on a poker run with my brother whike i'm there and it's suppose to be a great fall weekend. later, bud
