Angry Bike wont start....

This is a pisser....I bought a 2005 S40 back in May. Because of the vagarities of my job (soldier, 101st ABN) I did'nt get a chance to get licensed or take the MSF BRC offered on post (Requirement for riding if a service member, on or off post). Anyway, I finally got a chance to take care of all that last week. Rode all day Thursday and Friday. Ran some errands on Saturday. Yesterday, went out, started her up, went back into the house to get something while she idled, came out got on, remebered that I hadn't unlocked the forks, so I turn off the ignition, unlock the forks, try to start it again, and the bike won't turn over....It backfired once or twice but thats about it....still won't start....same thing, starter turns over, but it won't turn the engine over. Anyone else have this problem? Any advice?

SGT,
First of all welcome back.
I would start by checking the plugs. It's not a good idea to leave it sitting at idle for any lenght of time. You could have fouled the plugs. I'm not an expert wrencher by any means, but, it sounds like you may have flooded that puppy when you shut if off and had a hot start.
Also, did you put any stabilizer in the fuel before you parked it? You could also try draining the tank and put some fresh juice in it.

You will get some other help from the other members soon.

If the starter turns but the motor don't it sounds like the starter has a broke shaft.

Broken starter parts are extremely rare. I agree with Chicster.

Did you use any choke when you restarted it? I'd guess you flooded it bigtime. Normally, you shouldn't use any choke or throttle on a warm engine.

Pull the plugs, dry them, crank it with them out a few seconds, put them back in. Try to start it with full throttle and no choke.

If you notice the post says the starter is turning but not the engine. If the engine is not turning over the spk pluge don't matter much.

I think sgt. guido misused the term "turned over". He meant "fired". That would explain the confusion over the starter thing, anyway.
