| May 2007 Member of the month ![]() | Ok,,,let me throw my two cents in. July 2003 my tail was in a major head on collision on the interstate and it screwed my back up. I spent over a year in therapy and even to this day I go to the chiropractor and a massage thereapist every single week. But I have also tried the "I.D.D." therapy. Same thing as "Vax-D" but a little better. They claim they can make your whole back feel better, but it really only works on the lower back,, trust me,, I know. If it is your lower back or in your lumbar area I would definately give it a shot. It has almost completely taken away the lower back pain I have. The rest of my back is muscle damage and that is where the massage therapist and strength trainng comes into play. I also went out and bought me the Mustang seat with the driver backrest and that helps TREMENDOUSLY!!!!! I hope this helps some.

| You people are scaring the crap out of me with the back pain stuff. I'm almost 23 and have had back pain since I was 17. Now you're telling me it's gonna get worse. Oh! Mercy! As far as the seating positions. I find the cruiser seating ok for short jaunts. But for anything longer then say 50 miles for example my back prefers the seating position like that on a katana. Not so far forward that it gives me neck strain like a Gsxr. And not so upright that every bump jars my spine.

When I first got my bike I rode 100 miles to the nearest dealership to have the windshiled put on. That was 100 miles of pure hell. My back and neck hurt so bad it felt like I had water running down my spine. And I cramped so bad I could not move my head enough to do head checks when I changed lanes. It was horrible. I had to stop every 30 miles and strech my neck, back and shoulders. I don't know how those guys on TV ride those choppers with no windshiled wearing a pair of sun glasses going 100mph. Getting a windshield and getting in shape are the best things I have done so far to help my back. A back rest would also really help.

| If your really scared of back pain and your young enough to do anything about it....STUDY about it. there are ways to prevent back problems in your future. The biggest thing you can do to prevent degeneration is to STOP SMOKING!!!!! And don't drop motors and trannies and things such as this on top of yourself. Miloh. |

| Wind is another reason a slightly forward position is better. At highway speeds, wind blast takes most of the weight off my wrists and creates a nice balance.

| For those who asked, it's a L5 Degenerated disk lower back problem. I have at one time or another taken everything offered as far a meds are concerned, including the mentioned ultracet. Yes they all help when the pain is very acute, then of course you stop taking them, then do something to reinjure and it starts all over again. Someone mentioned a treatment I never heard of "IDD" I will check that out. Also the mention of a Mustang seat. That's in the future as nor Mustang or Corbin are offering a seat for the M50. The windshield looks like the next thing to fix, likely this week. I know that when I'm cranking along at 60 or more I am using my lower back to fight the wind. Well thanks for the comments.

| Hay all: I just ordered the mustang seat for mine, should be here Friday for my Vacation trip next week. I should have a solid review when I get back. I know it won't help the neck problem but it should help with the lower back problem. I also have a deformed from birth L4 vertabre and degeneration from there all the way to my neck where I've had a disk removed and replaced with plates and screws. It took almost two years after surgery before I even attempted to ride again. Hope it will get better with time. I did find that strength training helped a lot with the back pain. Miloh. |

| Bridal Boutique Manager ![]() | I used to slip a disc on a regular basis...up until a few years ago. Then I met this crazy old guy, who turned out to be a retired Chiropactor. He had me get on the floor on my hands and knees, although this is position which makes me nervous I did it anyway, and he told me to extend my back...arching it upwards like a cat stretching. Then do the same thing bending the back the other way...pushing my stomach towards the floor (basically the opposite movement). Do this 3 or 4 times...really reaching and trying to stretch the back as far as possible in either direction. I haven't had a slipped disc since, or any other sort of back problem. While I tend to agree that your problem is more the riding position you're using...doing the cat stretch on the back might also help strengthen yours enough to help ease some of the pain. Holy cow...I really gotta start checking dates! Last edited by Apertureguy; 05-16-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

| I slipped a disk in my back while golfing in my early 30's. I was laid up for four days and haven't been the same since. I'm now 43. My back was starting to twang (Like electric shocks going down my back when I first started riding again. I found that I was pushing the bike around too much to manuver it out of my driveway and past the cars. I have been doing various stretches before riding and also use the bike's power now more to manuver it and haven't felt any spasms for a couple weeks! I'll even do some wiggles and rotations while on the bike while I'm stopped at a stop light. I hope it was just some back muscles that weren't used to the jolts of motorcycling and they have since strengthened up. We'll see. I had a friend in his early 50's who had to give up motorcycling because of a bad hip. Good luck! I hope it works out for you. Man...I wondered why there were cobwebs in here!

| My backrest and risers have made a big difference in comfort. Don't have that pain in the middle of my upper back anymore. Try it you like it. Hehehehe...

![]() Cruisers are probably not your best bet if you have a dodgy back but you could try a better seat with a back rest and maybe changing the handlebars to the C50 bars or something similar . But you could spend a lot of money getting no where.

Mercy! Traditionally a lot of people go through back pain in their early forties and then again in their early sixties due to changes going on in the spine, most get over it with the right exercise.
