Default Different Light bar Bulbs

Recently I had a stone crack one of the driving lights on my light bar. I am not sure if my bar is an OEM or aftermarket unit, but it uses a standard type of GE bulb for the lights. Original part number was a GE4449. This is a standard diffused lamp, and its original application is for a tractor. Its a sealed beam type of bulb similiar to an older car headlamp, only smaller.

Years ago a frind of mine had a Plymouth Cuda with the original road lamps. He asked me where he could get new lamps. Showing me one, it looked just like the GE4449 tractor lamp, but didnt have the diffuser lense. Taking the factory part number I found the number crossed to a GE 4416. I ordered him a set and sure enough, the lense was crystal clear, with no diffuser blocks. At the time, I had a set of similiar aftermarket lamps on a pickup truck, and ordered the 4416 bulbs for those as well. I was pleased with the lamps, finding they were more of a large spot lamp, than a simple, yellow glow, the Ge4449 bulbs had.

So I bought a pair of these for my VL1500 and installed them today. (check the pic). I really like the focal beam of the lamps, they are aimed about 2-3 car lenghts ahead of the bike, and they illuminate the entire roadway. From about 2 feet outside the right white side line and the dotted yellow and everything in between. It works geat with the OEM headlamp as its aimed about 1-2 car lenghts ahead of the bike.

I dont necessarily live in the country, as the village I live in has alot of street lights, but the village is somewhat isolated. So if I go anywhere at nite, its on back roads with no lighting save for the bike. It was a great improvement that wasnt any more expensive than the stock type lights.

For anyone thinking these arent DOT legal, again, they are a direct replacement for an american produced car. (I think mustang used them as well).

I ran around on the back roads for an hours or so, and never had anyone flash their brights at me. Plus they look alot better.

No need to go to your local bike dealer to get these, just stop at the local NAPA and ask for napa# 4416 head lamp.

Now if I can just get them to stop vibrating, I'd be happy.

Doc.
