I took my C50 Limited in for a 600 mile service Friday and got it back yesterday. When I took it in, everything was working fine...only took it in to satisfy the warranty. I got it back and took a ride today. On the way I smelled something hot, then I noticed at the bike acted like the brakes were on sitting at a light. I couldn't really push it even though the clutch was in. Then I noticed that I had no rear brake pedal travel or rear brake stopping power. When I looked back at the rear break drum, it had completely changed color (from silver to kinda bronze). I put a drop of water on it when I got home and the water sizzled. I wouldn't think that much heat would be normal. My guess is, they adjusted the rear brakes out too far when they were cold and when they got warm, they expanded so I was basically riding the rear brakes for about 50 miles. I turned the free travel nut out a couple of turns and the brakes seem to be working now. Does my idea for the cause sound logical to those of you who are more mechanically inclined? I plan to take it back to the dealer/service dept. on Tuesday...they are closed til then and I guess I shouldn't ride it until then. What do you all think. By the way...from an earlier thread...they charged me $118 for the 600 mile service and did not adjust the valves...only listened to the bike cold. |
