as for this discussion, i'm not going to "preach" my opinion. FACT: at 60mph...if you are in a blind spot of a car (meaning they are just ahead of you in the next lane) and they have their windows closed and the radio on, loud pipes will not help, unless maybe you have that "unbaffled straight pipe" on a large displacement chopper.

buy the pipes you like, let others buy what they like and quit crying about it. if your neighbor is too loud in the middle of the night, go ask him nicely to be a little more considerate and keep the rpm's down.

.

true go deal with the problem in a nice way!!

Well put! I do keep the noise down most of the time when on the road. I was lucky with the purchase of the V&H Bigshots that the noise was ok till the throttle was yanked. The baffels will stay and my head will not throb after a 5 hour run. As for the others that think loud pipes are for poor white trash, call Jay Leno. And the flip side of the HD poser coin is that many people who make laws for bikes own a $30K Harley ( notice they are the ones with the starched Harley shirts). LoL Have fun with what u like and give others the respect they need.

Actually, I installed K&N's, Vance & Hines exhaust and Dynojet stage 2 jet kit. I also installed a 17T front sprocket.

If you dont like loud pipes then get the heel over it. Sounds like a bunch of left wing granny porkers that need to look in there own pants for something to short.

Exactly the type of person who puts on straight pipes. I rest my case.

Well I have riden with him and his bike has the stock pipes on it. Couple of the holes drilled on the baffles but you can't really tell that it is loud at all. Has a nice low rumble to it,, more of a growl to it. Where my bike on the other hand is alot louder,, to me as I said before it was TOO loud before I did that baffle modification. Between his bike and mine my bike wins hands down as being louder. But it is in my opinion respectable and not glass shattering.

I think the link to the AMA site you posted is a good one and I believe that self moderation is the key as well. If you are riding your bike and you think it is too loud then guess what,, everyone else will also. I found that out the hard way. I thought my bike was too loud and there were a couple of people that told me so also.

So I did that Thundermonster modification and it worked and now they don't have a real problem with me. It is still loud,, but not to where it hurts. I try to be respectful of communities. But I do like to romp on it at times on the open highway. Hopefully everyone will just self moderate themselves.

I don't have any desire to be the loudest bike out there. I know people who do and they also drink and ride, beat their wives, and are rude to their girlfriends. They go out at night drinking, carry their fat A$$es back to their bikes,, romp on the gas at 2:30 in the morning seeing how fast they can ride through neighborhoods,, then they turn into their neighborhood screaming down the street. They then go inside, beat their wife, then get up at lunchtime the next morning to check the air in the tires bolted to the bottom of their house.

Wow! If I beat my wife, I'll either be dead or in jail. Probably dead. I had to learn Karate just to keep her from beating on me!!!

In Texas I would recommend you leaving the tires off. Especially in the panhandle where the wind blows too hard.. might start pushing the house down the street if it rolls too easy.

I would also recommend really loud pipes if riding in Texas to help scare the jackrabbits and tumbleweeds away.

When the hurricane rolls in it's important to have the tires on your house filled up to the proper psi so you can tow your house out of there.
