Would love to go riding with you, but right now I just have a permit, so I can't take the interstates. My brother has been nagging me to go do the tail of the dragon left and right. Even though I am new to riding on the street, I had ridden quite a bit on the dirt as a teenager and took to the street pretty much immediately, so the no interstate, no nites, no 2-up permit in GA has been enough for now. I will be doing the MSF course in June and will have the license shortly thereafter. I'll PM you over the summer.

I too rode dirt bikes as a kid and up until now,,, not sure about the leap to the dragon right away,, I also want ot do it,, but I am thinking next summer,, I want to make sure I can throw that bike of mine around proficiently first. A 1500LC is ALOT different than a DR350 or DR400 dirt bike. There are alot of back roads you can take that will get you where you need to go. I just got my license about a month ago. Before that I managed to log about 1000 miles on mine without even getting on the interstate. I took Hwy 78 through Atlanta,, Hwy 138/92/41 south of town, and Hwy 92/41 north of town. Just when you feel comfortable with mixed traffic on public highways and you are ready let me know.

[Keep in mind the V-Star is air cooled vs Liquid cooled C50. Also there are some minor bonehead engineering oversights on the Yamaha such as the oil filter location. A real pain to change from what I hear. Both bikes are real nice though but you can't beat what you get for the $$$ with the C50. It all boils down to what suits you best and which one puts that ear to ear grin on your face] As you can see from my profile I ride a V* and my old lady has a C50 therefore I know both bikes quite well. I think BigD has it pretty much nailed. There is also the valve adjustment issue (pain in the butt) One beside the other they are exactly the same lenth. The C50 is higher (sit on both bikes to see what's more comfortable). The V* has more power but the C50 is no sloutch with the EFI. In the end it comes down to which one turns your crank. Good Luck |

I have both a yamaha and a suzuki. I have a roadstar warrior and a M50. If you are going to do a ton of riding...both city and highway...I would buy the suzuki. I love my warrior...but the air cooling does not quite work as well as liquid cooling. So for what it is worth......
