Default Specs for the M50?

Hey,
I can't seem to find any HP, torque or gearing spec's on the M50. I'm looking at gettting a new bike soon and I'm curious how it stack's up to other bikes in it's class with actual numbers.
Thanks
-Matt

Good question. Not really sure. i looked around before i bought my M50, and you really can't beat it. to tell a story, the day i bought mine a friend of mine started looking at a new bike. We started at the Yamaha dealer. A salesman asked him what he was looking for in a bike, and my friend brought up my new M50 and said he was looking for a bike with the same features (my buddy's a big yamaha fan). the salesman went outside to look at my bike and basiclly told my buddy to just go back to suzuki and order an M50. all I have to say is I love mine. i'm not sure of the numbers, but the bike has plenty of get up and go.

Yeah people seem to say that. Being fuel injected will pretty much always give better throttle response.

Do you know about where your rpm's are at going down the interstate at 85 or so are?

I can tell you that the M50 is pretty much rapped out at 80 or so...with no tach it's hard to tell exactly...the wind will beat the crap out of you without a shield too...lol...that's first on the modification list....

Here's you a few specs for it.

Wheelbase 66.5 inches
Seat height 27.6 inches
Weight 544 pounds
Engine 805cc SOHC V-twin
Horsepower 109 at 11,000 rpm
Transmission 5-speed
Torque 55 lbs.-ft. at 8200 rpm
Fuel Tank 4.0 gallons

Oh, by the way, I was considering a Harley Sportster 883 until I saw the numbers for it: a whopping 53 horsepower!! The 2005 Sportster 1200 is up 15% in horsepower this year to an even less impressive 70 horsepower. Just for a little further comparison, the Harley Vrod is only rated at 115hp. I forget the torques numbers, they're probably more impressive but I was amazed at how much hp Suzuki squeezed out of just barely more than 800cc's.

Thanks for the specs.

I think it would be really interesting to see a torque graph of this and compare it to one of a carbureted version of this motor.

I'm no expert here but 109 sounds a little high to me and without a tach its hard to say but I don't think the bike will turn up to 11000 rpm. If I had to guess I would say in the 50 - 65 hp range.

When I was shopping this bike, I thought the same thing; that the horsepower numbers sounded about twice as high as it should be but I found numerous difference sources giving this same figure. I even found one site that had dyno'ed the M50 and it showed a rear wheel hp in the 90's. I figured it was just an inflated Suzuki number until I saw that.
11,000rpm sounds like a lot for this motor but Harley Sportsters have a rev limiter that cuts in at 9,500rpm's but, from what I read on the internet, many people are installing aftermarket rev limiters to get them to almost 11,000. The way I figured it was if a Harley can sling around those big slugs at 11,000rpm's then this 800cc shouldn't have a problem. It sure doesn't feel like it would rev that high, but I'm still baby'ing mine during the break-in period so I can't really tell.

The 109 HP @ 11,000 rpm is probably an inflated "sales" HP...but like was said above, it probably realistically achieves between 50-65 HP....without a tach it's hard to tell....who cares, ride and have fun!

Wow, my '03 Marauder only puts out about 50 HP and the M50 is basically just a fuel-injected, prettier looking Marauder.

Well, all of the figures that I read were on the internet, so take them for what they're worth. I hope the numbers are close to that though. I like the braggin' rights.....especially to my Harley friends.

I would really like to know what the M50 dyno's at. Can't someone here go dyno their bike??? I would go dyno mine if it had more miles on it (only 110 miles on it now) but at the rate that I'm adding up the miles, it'll be next year.

Default Hard to find specs

This is from 2004 but probably not to far off. It says 62hp for the VS800 54.3ft.lbs. of torque.

I can't get to that site because of our smart filter. Now I'm really confused. Bikes.com reports it at 50HP @ 6500 RPM. http://www.bikez.com/bike/index.php?bike=20327

Default Suzuki VS800

The M50 has fuel injection so it must have more horsepower than the VS800 or standard 805 engine with carbs. Here is what the web site said about the VS800. Who knows if this is absolute fact? And it's last years info. I wish the factory would release HP figures. 62 HP + is not to bad!

"Not everyone wants a really big cruiser. For the man or woman seeking a middleweight machine, I have long been impressed by the Suzuki Intruder series, particularly the VS800. Powered by an 805cc liquid-cooled SOHC V-twin (a punched out version of the previous 750cc engine), the mid-size Intruder offers a good balance of weight (443 lb) and power (62 hp and 54.3 lb. ft. of torque).

Comfortable ergonomics and a low 27.6 inch seat height are complemented by good features, particularly including shaft drive, electronic ignition, chromed engine cases, and a halogen headlight. And the styling, vaguely custom chopper inspired with plenty of chrome, has the great advantage of not being an obvious Harley clone.

The 800 Intruder is an easy bike to ride, with a low center of gravity and a tractable engine. Despite its raked out front end, it steers and handles well on the road. Power delivery is smooth, and there is little drive line lash. Ground clearance is adequate at 4.9 inches, if not generous; just remember you are not riding a sport bike. Stopping power is provided by a front disc, rear drum combination that works fine and is easily controllable.

Because the Intruder series has been in production for a long time, there is a good assortment of aftermarket accessories available, including windshields and saddlebags, allowing the bike to be customized to suit the owner's particular needs. For those on a budget, a used 750/800 Intruder represents a particularly good value."

simplegame.....those specs are for the Intruder/S50 model not the Marauder/M50...
the Intruder/S50 has a 10.0:1 compression ratio and is slightly quicker than the Marauder/M50 which has a 9.4:1 compression...plus the intruder/S50 is 100 lbs lighter in weight.....

Here's a link to one of the stories showing 109hp although torque is only at 55. That's a lot of spread between the two.
