I first saw the Volusia 2years ago. I was't in the market but it appealed to me. Now that I am ready to buy, I am concerned that it might not be big enough. I am 6'2" and weigh about 290. My last bike was a Triumph Bonneville back in 1967.
I was looking at the Yamaha V Star 1100 or the Honda 1100 when I saw the Volusia wedged between a Honda Spirit 1100 and a VTX 1300. The Volusia looked bigger than the Spirit and looked just as big as the VTX 1300.
My intentions are to cruise. I do not plan to tour but that may come about.
Is the Volusia enough bike or should I go bigger?

I'm 6'2" and 240 lbs, have a Volusia and love it. Have ridden many bikes and IMHO the Volusia will give you 95% of the performance of an LC 1500 for about 60% of the price.

It is built big, magazines all highly recommend it. Motorcycle cruiser for one states that it's like getting an 1100 for the price of an 800.

Have you sat on a V-Star ? at your height you'll have your knees sticking up above the tank. The Vol is roomier than either the V-Star or the Shadow. If you need space for your bod you'll have to go up to 1500cc's or more to get better room than the Vol.

Differences in performance are negligeable between the Vol and the 1,100's and even the 1500's won't beat you by a wide margin.

If you're looking for a nice reasonably priced bike to cruise on then the Vol is definitly an excellent choice.

The Volusia is a good bike no doubt, but do yourself a favor and take a ride on an LC1500 befroe you buy, you will be surprised at how much more room you have especially if you have long legs, my inseam is 36" long.

The LC is not the slug some may think, I have rejetted mine and added some performance pipes and I get 45mpg if I keep it under 70mph and she'll beat any stock 1400 out there...the Volusia is quite a bit slower, but these aren't race bikes so a quick test ride ont he LC will let you know what fits you best and at $8,500 it's a great buy. Just a bit more to think about that's all.
