Personally, I think that the fact that this thread is many pages long says a lot about what Suzuki owners really feel about Harleys.
I once heard that the C in C50 stands for 'CAN'T afford a Harley' !

What does the M stand for?

Must ride something affordable?
Marginally superior?
Muscle beats chrome any day?
or my favorite...
Man, did you see that pricetag?

Hey DTVman,
Brockton Cycle on Route 28 in Brockton has Fieldsheer jackets on sale with armor for $25.00 mens and ladies......Nice ride from Tiverton. They are closing out the lineup and dumping them at dealers cost.
Just take Rt24 north, get off at Rt106 East, go to second street light and take a left. You'll se Monty's HD on the right after afew miles and Brockton Cycle is about a 1/2 mile more also on the right.

That's funny! (about driving up in your Honda car and being ignored) Almost every HD rider I've ever met owned a jap car or truck, or both!

What cracks me up is how you hear so many people say "I want a harley but I can't afford one right now". And they go on forever without riding because they don't have their "Harley".

I can't afford a Harley either but I'm having a heck of a great time on my C50.

And when I can afford a Harley, I'll buy a Victory.

+1 Jmal

For the same price, you can get a better looking, better sounding, better riding American bike.

This part-time Suzuki rider likes Victory too. A Jackpot would be nice, but I'll happily take an 8-ball.

I don't know. A hog rides pretty well, and it sounds good, too.

Victory makes good bikes, but I'd probably end up getting a rice-burner with the money, and skip out on the Harleys and Victories. Those M109Rs are nice, plus, with the five grand you save, you can get a sweet paint job and performance upgrades.

If, however, I was forced to buy an American motorcycle, I'd do Harley Davidson. Why? There are, like, thousands of parts available from the dealer for them, and there are Harley Davidson dealers all over the country, so it's easy to get the bike repaired.

Victory, not so much.

You are so right!! It's for that very reason that I bought a new Road King this year. I ride my bike a lot, a bit over 20,000 miles so far this year, and I ride with people riding all different kind of bikes, so I have plenty of opportunities to visit different motorcycle shops, and with out a doubt the HD dealer are the best equipped to handle any emergency that might come up when on the road. Parts are almost always in stock, and unlike most of the metric dealers that I have visited, they don't just walk away from you when they find out that you are from out of town.

Parts are almost always in stock...

This is the Achilles heel of the metric crowd... I’ve had to wait weeks just to get something simple like an axle nut for my Nomad... no excuse for that... I think Honda seems to make a serious effort nation-wide, but the others are hit or miss... But except tire mounting I don’t generally use franchised dealerships – at least not in the past 35-40 years... Harley has parts, but once they figure out I’m not really salivating over their latest offerings and just want something for my ancient Evo, there is a distinct attitude change... But, at least with Harley there is probably more after-market parts available than for all the other brands/models put together... And if one is into farkels the difference is even more apparent... still, they all have their place...

With the price of the metrics slowly climbing into the stratosphere and Harley prices essentially holding even (at least in the heavy iron) the price diffrences aren’t nearly as large as they once were... I think it really is beginning to boil down to what ever blow up yer skirt – riders can shop bike fer bike and worry less about image... as to American bikes, yeah, I’d go Harley – Victory is an impressive piece of enginerring, but for me, at least, in the asthetics department the Suzy, Yamer, Kawa and Milwaukee offerings all look far better proportioned (which probably means I don’t know what I’m talking about...)

Yep. I agree. The price of foreign motorcycles are getting higher, but they're also getting much better. Remember fifteen years ago when an 1100cc V-Twin bike was huge? 1800+ isn't uncommon now. *shrug*

Honda's nice. It's essentially, at this point, an American company where the money goes to Japan. My bike was made in Ohio, for example, and there are as many Honda dealerships as Chevy dealerships, with parts generally in stock.

New Harley Rider here, Rode over 13,000+ miles on my M50 loved that bike, just bought a 07 Electra Glide, I was orginally looking at the Victory because to the 6 Speed and 100 C.I. but with the new Harley 07 with 96 C. I. and 6 Speed I couldn't pass and it cost less. It was just something about spending 19 Grand on a bike surrounded by snow mobils and Vespas. Harley does make it easy for parts and customer service is pretty good. The bike handles like a dream and has plenty of power to boot 100 Hp standard. But I see nothing wrong with the metrics it's just a personal choice. Same Wind!

Nice bike, but someone is pulling your leg if they told you it's making 100hp stock. Look in the back of the parts book where they have the Screaming Eagle parts, it lists the stock HP, and Torque. If I remember right it's 70 HP, and 80 torque for the 96 inch twin cam.

So the pastor at my parents church is a Harley rider, and I got to talking with him this past Sunday. He mentioned that his bike wasn't running - that it had seized up.

The guy at his shop asked him if it had oil in it, to which he replied, "It was dripping out when I put it on the sidestand like it usually does, so yeah it had oil."

I rest my case.
