Learn from me. Point me out to your children and laugh and tell them, "Don't be an idiot like him." About three weeks ago, after filling up on my way to work, when I put the key into the ignition switch, the little flap over the keyhole broke off and jammed into the slot. I managed to jam the key down in there and wiggle it enough to get it started, but I knew better than to push my luck and try it again. I returned home and swapped over to my wife's bike. I found a replacement switch online and I able to combine the old switch and the new switch into one that fit perfectly. The new switch came with two new keys. Sunday afternoon, I finally got everything reassembled. Now, I have a problem with not throwing things away. My garage is proof. I'm trying to improve this bad habit. So, I said to myself, "Self, throw away the old switch and the old key. That way, you won't pick up the old key by mistake and you won't better cluttering up the garage even more." So I did. Monday is trash day and I dutifully put the trash bag on the curb. The gas tank was full, which is good for two days' round trip to work. So, on Tuesday night, I stopped to fill up. When I removed the key from the ignition and attempted to insert it into the gas cap -- I was instantly aware of my idiotness. At least I still had enough gas to get home. Hopefully, I have enough gas to get to a locksmith, too. |
