Default Newbie C50 owner/rider in Northern CA

Hey gang!

Just giving a shout out to my new family. I'm 39, 5'8 and 275 (big boy!), and I'm new to motorcycle riding (have ridden scooters before, though).

My work is moving me farther from my home (commute increasing from 50 to 62 miles). To save some wear and tear on my (100k mileage, 2001) car, and to save some $$$ on gas, I'd decided to investigate motorcycles. When I saw that C50 on line, I thought it to be a good choice. This only was confirmed the more research I did.

Long story short, "she" was delivered yesterday, in all her Japanese Blue and Black motorycyle-ly goodness! I go to MSP next Friday/Sat/Sun, and I already have my learner's permit.

Paid a little more than most folks (seems here in CA, with the almost year-round riding season, it's hard to get the dealers to back off from the MSRP and fees), but the free (quality) helmet and good discount on gear will help soften the blow, as well as spending quality time together with the bike. And can't wait to dress her up (accessories on order), and take her out on the town/highway!

Questions:

How much did you California C50 owners get yours for, out the door?
Any Northern California Riders here?

Duke

Where exactly are you? I no longer live in CA, but I was born in Eureka and grew up in Santa Rosa.

So.

What is the going $ for a c50 up there in N. Cal. I sense that maybe you feel you paid more than you should have.

I am looking up in Seattle but so far the dealers are working it hard - well because they know someone will be by eventually and buy the thing.

I guess in the meantime they make their nut on accessories and service.

they do have to make $ or they would not be in business long.

I however do not want to pay more than the absolute bottom line they are willing to let it go for and probably more important I do not want to feel like I was sucked in/taken. - been there done that and hoping to minimize it in the future. I am going educate myself as to $'s, drive them hard as part of the art of the deal, always sleep on it, not be impatient and be willing to walk away.

Granted I might not be riding a new bike for awhile. And I might not be buying it here.
Sometimes it is ok to pay full price and sometimes it is not about the money. If there was one price, like for a loaf of bread and we all had to pay that fine. Remember List prices are meant to be negotiated. That is why it is called a suggested price.

I live in Stockton, about 1 hour south of the capital, Sacramento.

Yes... the tax and license were there (not much you can do with that), reasonable fees (compared to other dealers I'd seen), but I did wind up paying MSRP ( $ 6799) for a two-tone C50. High when compared to other places out East I hear mentioned here.

Keeping it a long time is a good thing. You maintain it, ride it, and look at it like a thing of beauty it is and how much you paid goes away.

thanks for the response.

I am out to look at bikes today. I am looking new and used. I like the c50 but I am not quite ready to plunk down $ for a new one.

I am a newbie, just finished the msf class last weekend. I have a lot to learn and don't want to necessarily learn the hard way (drop the bike, etc.). So I am leaning used though new makes some sense as well.

NO inherited problems, keep up on the maintenance, the new factor - the respect you'd give it vs. a used one.

I will get there.

Congrats Duke! I'm envious. I am currently in the negotiating phase myself....but with my wife. I took her this past Saturday to look at and sit on the C50. She liked it and it softened her up a bit.

I look forward to posting a "New Ownership" thread of my own.
