Default When's the last time you left your kickstand down?

*Raises Hand* a week ago. It happened a couple of times when I was younger but probably not in 20 years.

I anticipated making a hard left, started leaning, stand hit and just about shot me into oncoming traffic.

I doubt it'll happen again any time soon but I know why they make bikes not start till the kickstand's up. I wonder how hard it'd be to modify it to do that.

Mine even kills the running engine if it's in gear and you put the kickstand down. It's definitely a good safety feature.

Well now that you mention it like that, it's essentially just a kill switch. Wouldn't be too hard at all I'd guess.

Well, for those who aren't afraid of wires. I still haven't installed the stebel horn I got 6 months ago.

I think it was in 1986 give or take a year. My current bike kills the engine if you put the bike in gear with the kickstand down. Agree with you and 06liner, this is a good feature because anyone can forget and I suppose it could turn out not so good.

Glad it didn't cause you more grief.

I'm not sure when it was introduced, but that is a safety feature on all newer bikes - if the stand is down and the bike is in gear it activates the kill switch.

I don't think I've owned a bike without that feature.

Never left it down due to the safety feature, but I have parked my bike with the kick stand up.

Needed some weight lifting that day anyway

Never. My Ninja will let you have the stand down while the bike is in gear, but if you start to release the clutch the bike dies. My M50 won't let the engine run if the bike is in gear and the kickstand is even partway down.

Never. Bike won't allow it thankfully. But I recently left my zipper down without knowing it ..............not sure which one is worse!

it's a safety issue... 100mph and zipper down could mean bad news

coulnd't have been more than 5 years old...

I was pulling up to a red light about a week ago and I had just down shifted to first and was at a full stop. Well I went to put my foot on the ground and the leg of my jeans in some weird way caught the edge of the kick stand. Short story long, it came down about a half inch, the motor died and i felt like a dumb @$$.
