Default mirror extensions

So, I cant use the mirrors on my bike. I am a pretty wide guy, and the mirrors just see my shoulders. If I adjust them so that I am not looking at me, I still can't see behind me, and I have huge blind spots. This would be solved if I could push the mirrors farther out to the sides somehow. Is there a way to do this?

Options are:
1. Get longer stems (if yours are factory and have threads at both ends)
2. Get new mirrors with longer stems.
3. Option 1 or 2 plus possibly rotating your handlebars a bit to move the controls
some (the bases where the mirrors mount).
4. Get new handlebars with more width and/or rise.

Yeah.. I am looking for at least a few inches each side. Looking at the KY magnum plus's.

I got those on mine and they work great. My custom bars were narrower than stock and while they stick out like rabbit ears, at least only a portion of my shoulders is contained in the mirror.

If someone hasn't mentioned it, you might also see if there are "bar end" mirrors available for your bike. I had them on my ducati, they worked great.

I had the same problem - all I saw with the stock mirrors was my own arms.

This was my solution:

I have the same problem with my S50. I'm considering the two options already mentioned here, bar-end mirrors or longer stems. I checked out all the bikes at the dealer and didn't see any stock mirrors that looked longer than mine. The bar-ends that I would get are the Napoleons here.

I haven't seen longer stems to buy so I would have some made. I think they are 10mm diameter that I would have someone thread and bend for me. I've got new handlebars that might help so haven't done anything yet.

Spacer Jim on MIG seel the spacers for the OEM mirrors. It might be how he got the name...

Just giving you grief! I have the same bike and I can see ok on the stock lollypop mirrors, but I want some with a little more style. Maybe the oblong M50 mirrors to start.

I ordered a set of kuryaken Magnum + mirrors. Big mirrors with stems 2" longer than normal, and pointed almost straight out.

If anybody else is looking in the future, I found these:

http://www.spacerjim.com/MirrorExt.html

I already ordered the magnums, so we will see how those go. If they aren't long enough (they also extend an additional 2 inches) then I will add these for 4 inches both directions.

nice find!
$43 a set is pretty damn expensive though...
Maybe it's time for Diamond Jim of M50unlimited to come up with a mirror extension mod
