I just got a '00 suzuki marauder vz800 and I have a good DOT approved helmet and I just picked up a black leather/mesh fieldsheer jacket. It looks more like a crouch rocket jacket but I feel it offers more protection than the leather jacket I looked at.
I'm also planning gloves and some kind of slip on knee pads/ maybe shin pads that I can put on under my jeans. I need help on choosing both gloves and pads. Any ideas?

For gloves, ask a guy at a local store what he recommends. Try a lot of stuff on, and try a few stores. Look for something with knuckle armor and venting, at least for the summer/fall. Around my area(NC), you might still want venting in the winter, the way things have been recently.

Do not buy tight or snug gloves, during long highway rides they will tend to reduce blood circulation and numb your hands

Exclamation

I really like my half chaps, especially living in AZ, they give great protection without having full leather chaps.
