Guys/Gals, I haven't ridden since my old Suzuki Intruder days in the late 80's. GOT THE BUG! I'm 48, 6' 00", 190 lbs. Live in the flat lands of VA. Plan on mostly commuting to work (in style) and 100-200 mile rides on ocassion. Any, if any, long distance touring will be solo. Wife (who is BUYING my bike, gotta love that) will maybe ride along once a week and only for joy rides, i.e. one hour and she is small, less than 120 lbs. I'm not trying to put the biggest bike beneath me, just the one that's right for me. I really like the bigger bikes, Road King, V Star, Road Warrior, C109T and more. But I need help in making an informed decision. I know that in the end, beauty is up to me. I am waffling between the C50T and the KAW 900 dressed up as a touring type bike. I am not limiting the search to these 2 bikes, but my limited knowledge has brought me to these 2. Would like to keep $$ to around $9000new or $7500 for a 2 yr. old bike. I know all about the MSF courses, semi-retired military! Please share and help inform me, beyond my local dealer (Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki under one roof) whom I believe is not trying to screw me. I have also heard that there is a reliability issue between carb vs. injection, I've also heard that w/the right fuel additive, there is no issue. Which is it? I often deploy for months at a time when my pager goes off, I couldn't prepare for being away and could not start my bike when I returned, the reason I got rid of my Intruder. I'm looking for an "old-man bike"...easy and fun to ride/NO MAINTENANCE. I'm a pilot, not a mechanic. Wish I was, you that can do that, my hat is off to you! I just want a dependable and gorgeous bike I can trick out. Would also gladly like to hear from back-seaters what creature comforts they most appreciate....hey, she's paying for it, gotta make her like it! Just joined this forum, spent a couple hours viewing it. You folks speak your minds and I like that! Thanks in advance for your help! P.S. this forum is so honest, but non-parochial, it's refreshing vs. the other one I have to visit (grudgingly) for work! |
