Default Is this a good deal????

There ia a Black 2005 Suzuki M50 Boulevard for sale at $5000. It has 3650 miles. Comes with shield, and saddle bags. Seller describes it as immaculate condition, garaged, never been layed down, perfect running condition. I've seen pictures and it looks as described but you never know until you ride it and see for your own eys. Since I am new to the whole motorcycle thing (I've only recently took interest due to age [50 always wanted one] and gas prices. As a novice is this a deal? KBB has it for $4825 retail. If someone with experience is reading this, can you guide me with questions I should ask seller? I would appreciate anyones suggestions/comments and look forward to reading threads more often.

Thank You

J

consider this, msrp is approx $6900, if you are lucky you may find a dealer that is willing to cut you some slack and get the bike out the door for $6000 - $6400. That means no accessories as well. 3600 miles for this bike is no big deal. If you plan on buying a windshield and saddle bags in the future it doesn't sound like a bad deal cause those are items you can wrap some $$$ in. You could also offer the guy $4700 and see what he counter offers with - maybe he needs to move it fast and will take the offer. More importantly see if you can ride and make sure the bike and the styling fit your needs. If he don't budge off the $5000 price and you like the bike, is it worth letting it sit for a couple hunderd dollars? If I was looking I would consider.

If you plan on getting a loan you need to look as NADA as well. I like KBB myself, and feel it gives the best coverage on resell value, but banks will lend NADA only, and they seem to be below KBB alot of times.

Plus you can basically tell the guy that for the most part accessories don't really matter. I mean it does help to have some of the basic stuff but it really doesn't up the value of the bike in the eyes of the lenders. They could care less.

I'd go with the lowere of the two whether it may be the NADA of KBB. Then present it to the seller and tell him that they will not get you a loan for anymore than that. If he is hurting to sell it then he will be ready to bite.

My Dad alway told me when I asked the same question:

"If you think it's a good deal, then it doesn't matter what other people think"

In other words, if you want it, and you are willing to give the money, then buy it and be happy with your purchase.

Just my 2 cents.................

PS Try to find an experienced rider to go with you to inspect the bike, and ride it home for you. Make sure before you buy a bike to take the MSF course to make sure you want to ride. We had one drop the first day, and one to drop the secound day, and 3 failed to complete the course.

This is excellent advice. Where are you located? There might be an M50 owner nearby that would be willing to check it out with you.

Nice bike, and an excelant choice for a new-be, but the price seems high to me, I sold my like new 06 "M50" last year for that amount with about the same mileage & more extras, I would think you should be able to buy that bike for somewher between $4,000, and $4,500. There are a lot of them for sale, so it's a buyers market.

I agree. If you really like it and are ok with the price, that's what counts - but make a lower offer first.

When shopping for my bike I asked each and everyone of them why are they selling. All of them was upgrading, mostly to Harley's, and none of them wanted to move on the price. They usually sold in a few days of the ad's running for the asking price.

For used bikes in Middle TN it is a seller's market.

At the very least you definately should be making an offer, even if its a lowball offer, there is never any harm in it because you never know what might come of it, never worry about insulting someone when making an offer, as mentioned, they may be looking to move the bike.

As comparison for what its worth, last month I purchased a 2006 Boulevard M50, with 1400KM on it, lady driven and mint It came with a Memphis Shades windshield, chrome saddlebag guards and 2 leather saddle bags. I purchased it from a Nissan Dealership in which they were looking to move the bike quickly. The sticket price on the bike was $6900.00 ( Canadian $ ) I simply asked him what the best he would do and he said, I just want this bike gone and said I could have it at cost for $6200.00. The deal was made.

I was on the road for 7000. (CA)

As a reference point. I purchased a 05 M50 Black on Ebay last October. It had 8000mi, windshield, chrome saddlebag supports and saddlemen saddlebags. It came from a car dealer in Tennessee for $3200. Plus the previous owner had debadged and drilled the plates in the exhaust.
