Default "Sliming" tires

For Father's Day my son gave me a tire repair kit which includes "Slime" sealant and a 12V compressor. I then searched this and other fora as well as Google to see what this stuff is/does. Some say it's OK as an emergency repair only. Others say they use it in MC tires as a preventive measure.

Then I found this site: The Motorcyclist - Toronto's newest motorcycle & scooter parts, accessories, sales and repair shop for the motorcyclist!- Special Offers where they treat both MC tires with Slime - obviously they think it works OK as a permanent installation. However even that web page says, "SLiME is recommended as a repair only in high speed, over-the-road tires." If it's for "repair only", why put it in before you have a leak?

Most posts on this subject in this forum are a few years old. What is the latest consensus on using this stuff either as a permanent/preventive measure or as a temporary, "get me off the road", quick-fix?
