A short review of the bike.

Coming from VT1100s for the past 15 years and a Harley before that I was looking for a performance great handling cruiser without going to the heavier CC bikes. I was disappointed in the Honda VTX1300. Its long in the tooth and no EFI!! Shaft drive.....Its just wasn't enough of a step up from the VT1100 to warrant a new bike.

I was leary about a first year engine but Yamaha has a great reputation< Initially I did not like the bike as it sounds like a sewing machine stock. That was my first impression as I started it and heard the gear whine and......well I thought I heard an exhaust note but the gear whine covered it up....

ON the road it was a screamer. 70 HP of smooth power. This bike was a keeper. I immediately order the complete performance enhancment package and a better exhaust tone as well. Its not about the SPL but the "music" Stock Harleys sound deep still although not loud. I believe the Cobra Speedsters along with the Thinder air kit and Cobra FI2000 will not only increase the performance but cover up the gear whine.

The bike handles like a 750 at slow speeds due to its very low COG. Thats a good thing for us 30 inseamers. I did order the Royal Star Bars to bring them up and back a bit. The stock bars were a bit of a reach, Even with the Mustang seat which on the Shadow pushed me forward an inch, I am not sure if it's the 16" wheels or short rake but the bike handles well very well. It i confidence inspiring. The frame is stiffer than the Honda and does not flex,

The wife LOVEs the roomy pillion as compared to the Shadow. Yamaha Floorboards for her as She will be riding with me more on this bike,

I forgot how nice and smooth a belt drive can be. No shaft jacking which I got used to.

SO far my riding has been on a stock bike but as the parts trickle in I will install them and look forward to the changes.

IF you want a quick quiet cruiser that has the feel of a sportier bike this V Star 1300 fits the bill.

Fuel Economy? Don;t know. Won;t know until I get the performance package on it. Anything over 40 will be great.
