Default M109R for kind of first bike

I learned to ride on a sport bike and only rode for a season 3 years ago before I sold the bike. I was very natural at riding and handled well without any issues. Although I have not come close to dangerous situations, but I rode good 2000 miles without an incident. It was a 600cc sport bike.

I have been saving for a while and this time I want to buy a cruiser. I have priced out 08 Vulcan 900 Classic and 08 Boulevard C50LE but I have always wanted a M109R.

I am a very careful person and react well to numerous situation. However, I am only 5'6" 175 lbs. I have sat on M109R, and thought it was extremely heavy as it is ~1800cc bike, but thought I could handle it as I was waddling back and forth on it.

I know myself well and I know I will get bored right away if I settle on a bike that I can handle at this time. Also, I am married, but don't have a baby planned for 2 years, so this will be the last big spending I can afford without worrying about other finances.

Please talk me out of it or into it.....I will be buying this new as I don't see too many options where I live (Fargo, ND) without adding on shipping issues.

Thank you in advance.

Ive been riding for 22 years.Ive had them all Gsxr 750 then 1100 then CBR 900 RR.I right now own a suzuki intruder 1500.
I have been looking at the 109r and it is sick. The problem is your in experience and the thrill when you twist the throttle of a bike with 127 horse power stock.
The fact you said you would get bored if you had a bike you could handle says it all.Get the 109r and you may not be able to handle it and then it gets ugly.
I would try a little older bike. They are very dependable and when your ready to upgrade you can sell it for what you owe on it.
Trust me my lip is bleeding I want the 127 horse power and the 240 rear tire.Good luck with whatever you do ride safe.

Have you considered a Harley for your first cruiser? Maybe a V Rod would twist yer pickle...

I did consider V-Rod, but my local dealer doesn't do any deals, and everything starts from MSRP. And I don't want something like that even for a Harley. I got a deal on M109R for ~$11,000 and that's what I want to go with if that is a good deal as I am willing to spend $4000 more for the bike of my dreams.

I know I cam waddle back and forth on M109R, but I know it wouldn't be the best bike for me.....but damn it.....it is the bike of my dreams.

But chances are, I will be going with C50 to get used to heavy bikes first.

Thank you all for your inputs so far.

At 5'11" you may not be comfortable on the m109. I sat on one in the showroom, I am 6'1" and it felt like a stretch. I have what IMHO is one of the best cruisers out there, a C90T. Plenty of power (1500) good size, great handeling and yes I know the gas tank is small (3.7). There are fixes for the tank if that is an issue but I find that I like to smell the roses every 130 miles anyway.
Go take another look. I dont consider the m109 a cruiser.

Welcome, Solidgun. With your riding experience I wouldn't say it's too much power, but it is a very heavy machine. Imagine finding yourself on sandy pavement, or in a tight parking lot turn at 25 mph. Those are the times all that weight will get you.

+1 on that, I dont forsee you dumping it due to a ham fisted throttle twist. I suspect that if you WERE to dump it, it would be something like...pulling into or out of your driveway at 5 MPH or so.

But hopefully you get what you want and dont dump it at all...The point, after all, is to keep the shiny side up...How about the older suzuki boulevard M95 to start?...its a bit lighter and supposedly pretty quick. Either way good luck and keep us posted.

Its a good looking bike and could save you some cash if you find a nice used one.
