Default Suzuki c50 vs c90

Hello All

I am very new at this and I'm not sure if I'm even doing this right. But my question to all is, I like the Suzuki line of bikes and I wanted to know if anyone has purchased the c50 and wishes they purchased the c90. I want a bike that will be able to take my wife for a ride, be comfortable and not be under powered with the extra weight. I want to get back into riding as I put it to the side while raising 3 children. It is now time to get back into it. My last bike was a 1984 1100cc V65 Honda Magna. I am just wondering if the c-50 is too small for 2 people being only 800cc. My wife is 5'7 135lb, will she have enough leg room for a long distance or should I be looking for a larger touring bike, like a Harley or Honda. She won't be riding very much on it but I want her to be comfortable when she is. I know that the C50 is about 4" shorter than the C90 and about $6000.00 cheaper. I need imput on both bikes. With the price of gas rising I want something that is good on fuel too.

Dave

Well, I owned a C50T for 2 years and traded it for a C90T so I guess I can tell you about both! The C50T is a GREAT bike and can do all you want to do on it. It has plenty of power to tour "2 up" if that's what you want. It's very "roomy" also. It's a very BIG motorcycle for an 800cc.
The C90T is everything the C50T was, only BETTER! More power, triple disc brakes, cast wheels, no tubes, hydraulic clutch and valves, etc. It's NOT $6,000 more than a C50T....I got mine on sale for $9299....look around, there are deals everywhere. You can't go wrong with either one, but if you wanna save $$$$$ get the C50T. It'll do ALL you ask of it.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at a Canadian dealer and the best price I can find is $11299.00 for the C90T (2007) on SALE.

Default From C50 to C109

Hey I bought a C50 Black last June (2007) and loved it, but I did think that a C90 would be a MUCH better touring choice. I follow all the rules, wear all the gear all the time, and don't value performance over comfort over safety, but the C50 was a bit underpowered in the lower torque range in my opinion for 2riders.

I bit the bullet and just ordered a C109T. I wanted the RT but didn't want to miss this riding season, and the RT's are VERY slow in coming. (Late May and possibly June at my dealers!)

Personally I prefer all black to two-tone black and grey so I bought a C109R and the dealer is upgrading it to the same Suzuki parts to make it an RT, except for the badge, of course. It came out essentially the same price. I bought the C50 for $5289 US, put 3k on it and they are giving me 4800 against the price of the new bike, which in my relative newbie ignorance, I thought was pretty good. LOVED my C50 and from everything I can tell so far, I am going to love my all black C109R fauxT!
LOL.

Your US prices are a joke. I can't even buy a used 2002 Suzuki 50 with 7000 miles on it for under $5900.00 (Canadian). Thanks for the info and enjoy your new 109.

Default Best Time To Buy

Several people have independently told me the same thing about saving money when buying a bike, Wait until late Fall/early Winter when people who made impulse buys are having regrets and putting up bikes to sell. It wouldn't help you for this season, but I have noticed that prices fall and willingness to sell for less increases then. Dealers sell used bikes for much less then. Also if dealers see you come in and look, but not buying, over a period months, they will realize that they will need to give you a good deal to get your business. One guy said he went to 5 kawasaki dealers and gave the salesguys his home number, described the bike and price range, and one guy called him when he had a trade-in that matched his preferences. More than one way to skin a cat! Also try Craig's list, there have been some good deals there at times.

Don't forget about the tiny-winnie C90T's gas tank......

I just bought the C50T last week and like it a lot!! Very nice bike and nice ride......smoooooth!!!!

I don't forsee any problems riding two-up on this bike.......Heck we both rode on my 750 Nighthawk, it had plenty of power....I'm sure the V-twin will be fine.

I go more by range than capacity -- I'm told the C90 tank is only good for about 120 miles.

I also got back into riding after many years. I had a c50 and enjoyed it. I am 6'2 and 250. I found it to feel strained at 70 mph. My wife wanted to ride and so we went to a c90t (After 1/2 hour my 15 year old daughter would complain of a sore but). G man has a fix for the gas capacity but I find that my bladder is good for about 120 miles. We like to stop and stretch.
Both are great bikes and bullitproof. Oh, I like the 90 brakes MUCH better.

Thanks! I was out looking at bikes today. I really like the looks of the C90se but I'm don't really want to spend that much money right now. I sat on the C50T and it seemed just right. Nice weight, nicely balanced and could get a deal on a 2007 model. I'm just not sure whether I like all the studs on the T model. I really don't think that my wife will go riding very much so I think I'm heading for a new C50SE or T. Tomorrow I could change my mind. More and more of my friends are getting back into riding and I don't want to be left out. Losing to many family and friends to cancer and have to start living my life. But somewhere in the back of my mind I going to kick my ass for not buying the C90. ??????

I have to ask; is it hard to keep the white walls clean? Are the studs very secure on the seat and do they get very hot when the sun is on them?

How are the studs on the seat and is it a pain in the butt to clean the white-wall tires?

No, the white wall are not a pain. I do them while washing the bike. I don't have a lift so I resort to rolling the bike back. The studs are not a pain and not hot, I don't ride with shorts. Also Bud is correct, it will only go 120 miles. I just bought a G-tank to increase my range to the 220+ range.

I consider the 4.1gal tank on my M50 kinda small. 3.8 on a C90 is tiny.
