Would the newer C50T bike be better on fuel than the older Nighthawk bike?

If I keep it under 65 mph, I get high 40's mpg on my 2005 C50T. That with the 4.1 gal tank gives me close to a 200 mile range, but that's a long time to sit so you'd probably want to stop for a stroll anyway.

But when I want to I can easily jump up to 95 mph and I've had it well over 100 just to see what it will do. Power is not an issue on this bike. I love everything about it except the brakes. Get the C50T and use your savings for other toys, like a handle bar mounted GPS

Well, I'm lucky to be purchasing anything right now as I am Laid-Off from General Motors. I should be back in the fall if all goes well. In the mean time I plan on doing a lot of riding and doing Volunteer Firefighting work. Looking forward to travelling a long distance with my new bike over the next 7 months before I go back to work. Anytime is a good time to enjoy a new bike.

As my 19 year old son who is at Firefighter College says," The lives of many depend on the courage of a few." Live life to the fullest, be healthy, strong and enjoy your life as you see it. Happy riding everyone, even if your the toughest guy in the world, a little wave means happiness to someone else. That person might just need the help of a fellow biker for something someday.
Happy Riding, Dave from southern Ontario, Canada.
God bless all the soldiers who are fighting over seas. May they all make it home safe.

It must be the extra weight behind the bike that makes it get a little less. Oh well it is a lot better than any pick-up truck right now. They are saying that the price of gas in Ontario will be approx. $1.50 per litre by summer. I know how I'm go to be getting around.

If you are getting back into riding after an extended period of time, I strongly recommend taking the MSF course or similar in your area. More returning riders wind up in serious trouble and worse because they think they still have the magic touch. I did not see any mention of that in the replies and it takes a good deal of practice and training to get the skills back...so take it easy and practice and take a course. Ride safe!

My brother is a Motorcycle Police officer rider and is planning on spending many of days training me to the police level. I'm looking forward to that.

Thumbs up C-50 vs C-90

I know that you already ordered your new toy, but I would like to add my two cents...

I don't know how long its been since you rode last or what size the bike was. I returned to two wheels after a 35 year break. I took the MSF course and learned a lot that I never knew before. First bike was a 1969 350 cc Ducati. In 2005, I picked up a C-50 Limited and converted it into a "T" with passenger footboards and a C-90 passenger seat so my wife would be more comfortable (I must also admit that a larger bike would have been my demise.) It was great for around town to 40 mile trips. When we took a long over-night trip she said that we won't do that again.

Last Sept. I traded up to the C-90 with a Mustang touring seat. What a difference. This is an all day comfortable ride. It doesn't work as hard, doesn't get blown around in the wind, and the brakes ARE so much better than the C-50. That said, the C-50 is a great bike for what it is for, and for starting back out on. You can always trade up, or you may never feel the need.

Default C-50 vs C-90

Oh yeah, the gas.... The C-50 was usually 50 to 53 mpg - the C-90 is way less!

Thanks for your in-put. I like you have purchased the passenger floor boards, I hope she will be ok with that. She is a persone who doesn't really like wearing a helmet, messing her hair so I don't really plan on her riding a lot. I now that my kids will want a ride more than she will. I will be doing most of the riding on day trips only so I really feel the C50T will do everthing I need it to do for now. Like you said I can always move up later if needed. Gas just went up to 1.19 per litre today in Southern Ontario, Canada.

$4.50/US Gallon. You guys are hosed worse than California!

I'm sure you'll be happy with the bike. I have a C90 but as long as you have a bike and some friends to ride with, life is good. Don't get caught up in the competitive BS and enjoy.

I consistently get between 40 mpg (minimum) around town to about 49 on tour on a fully stock C90.
